3408.0. "V3.0 re-link hang or loop problem" by WAYOUT::TALBOT (Trevor Talbot) Mon Oct 18 1993 14:47

Hi,

	I have a v2.4 customer that had SFCP and Wordperfect
installed. He removed the WPCORP and then did upgrade.
This was reported to have gone error free!!
	However, when he now attempts a re-link the
last thing that happens is the message
'Building shared image modules' is displayed, a
show proc/cont/id=.... shows it flipping from MWAIT to
COM without any DIRIO.
	I have located and destroyed several site version
of a1link.com and oaet.mar, I have looked for other
.opt files that may cause the problem and have found none,
I would like some suggestions on what else to check.
	I tried a1$debug and a1$lnkdrv_debug but this
gave no extra info...
	Because of the re-link failure, he decided to go
back to v2.4!!!! after a lot of effort on a Sunday
evening by your truly!!

How was WPCORP removed ? by doing @WPCORP$OA20DIR:WPCORP$OA20_DEINTEGRATE.COM ?

Is this the relink of the maiden ALL-IN-1 or is this the relink from the Word-
Perfect integration ?

Are you sure there arn't any sitelink.com or oaet.mar in the development
environment ?

Last but not least was WordPerfect on VMS still active ? If so, I would advice
to boot the system without starting WordPerfect.

Martin

3408.2was it just the deferred bit?AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Mon Oct 18 1993 15:3316
    Trev,

    i'm curious why you didn't just swicth deferred image activation off
    and then we could see if it was just that causing the relink to fail.

    oh and also make sure you removed WPCORPs versions of A1LINK, OAET
    SITELINK24, a1v24_site_start from CM too.

    as to the main problem:
    from another terminal you do a SHOW DEv/FILES and see what the last
    file is. Then go to A1LINK.COM and see what the next file it accesses
    should be - the problem will be with one of those two.

3408.3Have you Tailored Off anything ?GIDDAY::SETHIHolland 2-England 0,Andrew wasn't thereTue Oct 19 1993 03:1111
    Hi Trev,

    If you have Tailored Off anything on your OpenVMS system it will cause
    the looping problem. Unfortunely the Linker has a bug in that if it
    cannot resolve the arguments passed to it it will quite happily loop,
    it's a known problem and OpenVMS engineering are aware of it. This
    lovely feature has been around for quite a while now.

Hi,

	Thanks for your replies so far:

re .1 Wordperfect was removed as per documentation,
	which I believe suggests that .com
	The re-link is after the upgrade went o.k and
	without wpcorp on the system.
	I believe I got him to clear out all a1link.com
	and oaet.mars, only an empty sitelinkv24.com was
	left.
	And finally no Wordperfect has not yet been
	re-added.

re.2 I'm curious as to what you mean by deferred image
	activation switch off! But to answer your point
	ignorance was my reason for not doing it..what
	ever it is.
	Are the CM elements left? Don't know, does the
	wpcorp deinstall.com usually handle this?

re .3 I'll find out about the tailoring...but at
	present I suspect not...still I'll call customer
	tommorow to confirm.

Keep the ideas coming,

cheers

-Trev

    a1$defer == 0
    @a1lnkdrv

    as for CM elements at best it just removes them from live and leaves
    them in develop.
