3357.1 | ASCII format added | ZPOVC::CHINGYUE | | Tue Oct 05 1993 10:13 | 9 |
| Sorry for the false alarm.
When SH, the Data Set was ASCII. Having traced through the ND,
I created a ASCII format with WPS-PLUS formatting set to "Y".
That allows the document format to be changed.
Not too sure if that's right but customer is able to print now.
Thanks.

3357.2 | STANDARD ASCII Format | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Tue Oct 05 1993 10:58 | 17 |
| In V3.0 NEXT SCREEN is used only to change WPS-PLUS formatting settings. If
you press this key when printing a document which will not be formatted by
the WPS-PLUS Formatter the message
You cannot change the WPS-PLUS formatting settings for this document
will be displayed. The datatype and handling of the document, and
information in the FORMAT master is examined to determine if the document
will be formatted by the WPS-PLUS formatter.
ALL-IN-1 V3.0 ships with a FORMAT master entry called 'STANDARD ASCII'
which is for formatting ASCII documents with the WPS-PLUS formatter.
Therefore it was probably not necessary to create another entry which is
equivalent to 'STANDARD ASCII'.

3357.3 | My 'work-around' didn't work | ZPOVC::CHINGYUE | | Wed Oct 06 1993 09:56 | 12 |
| Richard,
The document has a DATA TYPE of ASCII, not STANDARD ASCII which is why
I've asked customer to create a new ASCII entry.
Customer's feedback today isn't that good. Now they/re able to NEXT
SCREEN but only the first line prints in 16 CPI, the rest of the
text doesn't appear.
ANy suggestion ?

3357.4 | What type of printer? | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Wed Oct 06 1993 11:57 | 24 |

I would expect the Data Type to be ASCII, because that defines the
structure of the file and that is not being changed.
The Handling of the document is probably blank or set to 'ASCII EDT'. If
you use the U (Update) option to change the Handling to 'STANDARD ASCII'
then the document will be formatted with the WPS-PLUS formatter. In this
case you are changing how ALL-IN-1 processes the document.

What type of printer are you printing to?
Check the VMS Print queue and Print Form definitions. It sounds like the
records being sent to the printer are being truncated.

3357.5 | One other question | ZPOVC::CHINGYUE | | Thu Oct 07 1993 06:41 | 13 |
| Richard,
You're right again. Their OA$HLS_* form has been set with /TRUNCATE
qualifer.
Thanks.
By the way, (I know I should ask this in WPS-PLUS conference but...)
can the pitch size of a mail be saved in the document instead of having
to change the pitch size just before printing ?

3357.6 | No, but... | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Thu Oct 07 1993 11:24 | 18 |

It depends on the Data type of the message. If it is ASCII the pitch size
cannot be saved because an ASCII file does not provide any mechanism for
storing anything other than the text.
If the Data type of the message is WPS-PLUS then it can contain stored
WPS-PLUS print settings such as the pitch size if these are set when the
message is created. However, when the WPS-PLUS print settings of a message
are changed during a Print operation the settings cannot be saved because a
user does not write access to the shared .WPL file in the OA$SHAR*
directories.
