3356.0. "OA$DAF_%.DAT files" by ISIDRO::LOURDES (Lourdes Rebollar, IS Spain) Mon Oct 04 1993 16:31

	Hello,

I want to know if is it possible to create more than five
	OA$DAF_%.DAT files?

We have one ALL-IN-1, we have created five DAF.DAT files (A,B,C,D and
E), they are very big (from 400.000 until 700.000 blocks), they are
converted to minimize the space, and our ALL-IN-1 continues growing ...

	Anybody have one idea?

	Looking forward to your answer
Thanks in advance & Best regards
	Lourdes

Bottom line is "NO", the 5-DAF limit is fixed in code. It could be
lifted, but only though a code change.... Besides, 400,000 isn't such
a big DAF.... Are you practising good system management by:

    a) cleaning up unfiled mail after 30 days?
    b) unsharing anything in the mail shared areas that is accessed by
a single user? These files should be in users' personal areas and
not pointed to by the SDAF.

The Mail Janitor and File Cabinet Report ASSETS will help you get your
    system back under control...

Hi,

You don't say whether all 5 sdafs are open etc.
Try and close the larger ones in preference for the
smaller ones....try backing up the whole disk and then
restoring..this will at least make them contiguous and
hence help converts etc...encourage users to delete old
mails, EW more frequently, don't allow junk mail to be
sent in the first place!
If none of this helps...move the dafs onto to
bigger disks..:-)
