3347.0. "Remote delivery of mail messages" by BACHUS::BHP144::Laroche (Veerle Laroche) Thu Sep 30 1993 15:37

Hello,

A customer asked the following question. Version 3.0-1 of ALL-IN-1.

They have 3 mail areas ; oa$share, oa$shara, oa$sharb.

When remote mail is being delivered, it seems that the file is always
copied to oa$sharb.
Is this possible ? How is it determined to which shared area the file is
copied to ?

Can anyone comment on this ?

Thanks,

Veerle.

Veerle,

>> How is it determined to which shared area the file is copied to

Select the message in the current item block and type FULLDB on the command line
This should give you the physical file location.

Does this (remote mail to OA$SHARB) happen for all users or just for some ?

Are all three mailareas open (SM MMA I) ?

What's the value of the field mailarea in the profile of the users ?

    Hello Veerle,

Next guess from Holland. I would say the "Mail area:" field
of the POSTMASTER account determines which area is used.

    Hi Jan,

Of course you are correct in what you have said, there are a couple of
    things to note however.

When the Mail area is closed the status of the Mail area is CLOSING
the option are in (SM MMA). If your Mail area is in CLOSING status you
need to run the BMA housekeeping routine, this is also true if a new
    Mail area has been created.

BMA will than update the Mail area fields in profile to ensure that the
users are "evenly" split over the various mail areas. Note BMA has a
slight Buglet see note 2949.2 for more information, the problem
manifests it's self in a clustered environment.

    Regards,

    Sunil
