| My intention was to test and then delete my test note but it appears I
do not have privs to delete my own note. Here is the issue:
When you Rename account using MUA RNA option, and change both the
ALL-IN-1 username and the VMS username (to the same name), and then
create a new note (topic) in GPC, the Author name has not been updated
to the new name. It appears GPC gets the Author name from the SWC
Personal name field.
The customer wanted to know if there was any way to have the Personal
name field updated at the time of Renaming the account, other than by
changing it on the GPC SWC screen.

| Susan,
To understand the way GPC works, you have to remember that it is just a
front-end to the ordinary VMS "Notes" utility. I don't think your problem is
in the GPC interface, it's just a consequence of the way Notes works.
From Notes' point of view, the author of a note is the VMS username of the
person that entered the note *at the time they enter it*. So if you enter a
note, then change your VMS username (eg by using MUA RNA in ALL-IN-1), the note
will still show your old username (and it would be unreasonable to expect
ALL-IN-1, or any other program, to go round the network updating the username
on every note you've entered!). Thus you will not be able to delete (or
modify) the note from your new VMS account, as Notes thinks that is a different
person. I'm afraid that's just the way it is.
The only workaround, and it isn't really practicable, is to get the conference
moderator to change the VMS username on notes you've entered. Something like
PAN might make this easier.

How GPC/Notes work is explained in .2. I am not sure, however, whether
I completely understand what is meant in .1 with:

GPC does not get the Author name from the SWC although it does get the
personal name from there. The author name (node::username) used for
authentication is supplied by DEC Notes and outside the control of GPC.
From the above the sequence of events seems to be:
1) Rename account
2) Create note from newly named account
3) Delete note written in 2) from the newly named account
which should work. What will not work, as explained in .2
is if you switch steps 1) and 2).
Is this clear?
