3304.0. "MOVING from ALL-IN-1 to Teamlinks" by WEOOIS::Trickett (Genuine Kiwi, eats roots & leaves) Tue Sep 21 1993 00:34

I have a client who wishes to move from an ALL-IN-1 server/VT
environment, to a Mailworks server/Teamlinks one.

They are changing hardware and don't want to continue using
ALL-IN-1 as their mail server.

Are there any scripts around that would enable me to move and
convert all of their existing documents form the ALL-IN-1 file
cabinet to the Teamlinks one?

I have searched this conference but cannot seem to locate
anything about it.

Many thanx for any assistance.

Muzz
WEO

You might want to ask this in other conferences, for TeamLinks and DEC
Mailworks (pointers in notes 4.* of this conference), since we're
hardly likely to advise you on how to move *away* from IOS here :-)

At the risk of advertising, Tony Redmond's new book "Working with
TeamLinks" has some advise on migration, you might want to look at
    that.

Is your customer aware of the new features in TeamLinks V2.0 and the
TeamLinks Connection Package (discussed in other notes here) that will
enable them to use IOS both as FileCabinet and Mail Server?

Thanx for the advice, I did get an answer over in the Teamlinks conference.

I agree that using IOS has its advantages, however this customer wants to be
up and running on Alpha early next year, and it looks like the Mailworks
server will be up & running quite a way before the ALL-IN-1 server is.

how early next year do they plan to be running on Alpha AXP?

... and when do they believe ALL-IN-1 will be available on Alpha AXP?

They need to be up in Q1/Q2 94.

Accrding to the rollout schedule we have ALL-IN-1 IOS isn't due until
SEP-June 95.

Well, we are currently in internal field test and plan to go to external
field test Q194 (calendar). I dont want to give details here, but if you
mail me I can supply our phase 1 published ship date. The problem with the
Alpha AXP rollout it quotes CDROM dates, not SSB dates, which are every 3?
months. It gives a range to show what happens just in case it misses the
first 2 available CDROM dates. I thought the CDROM dates around that time
were May 94, Aug 94, etc. I would not expect EFT to finish in time for the
May CDROM.

To save throwing the baby out with the bathwater, would he be interested in
my view of the dates ... or even being a field test site?

And one other thing to bear in mind was that the DEC MAILworks date
was for the server on OSF/1 and *not* the server on OpenVMS so you
may find out that good old ALL-IN-1 gets there first.

I'd advise checking your sources on the DEC MAILworks dates if as I
suspect your customer is an OpenVMS.

    regards,
