Hi All, I am opening up this topic to give some feedback to fellow digit's in the field, namely the consultants. Having gone to a customer site yet again I find myself trying to undo a few things (couldn't really say what I wanted to). Three of my greatest grips I have with consultants are the following: 1. Customising ALL-IN-1 without the use of the Customisation Management sub-system. Namely 2.4 systems this causes problems with the CART report. 2. Installing ALL-IN-1 IOS on the system disk this in some cases causes io bottlenecks and we get irrate customers complaining. 3. Putting mail areas on the system disk which case the same reaction as 2. I am not having ago at consultants I know that you have a job to do. But some of my customers get a bit annoyed by the lack of planning and advice given to them. Worse still the customer blames ALL-IN-1 IOS for the performance related problems, now we can't have that :-) !!!! The above are tree most common complaints I have come across. This is not ment to be a consultant bashing not but a consultant awareness note. I know that there are many consultants who are aware of these issues but I have come across at least 4 sites where we have had the above issues come up. Please think before you act. Of course I am optimistic ALL-IN-1 IOS will be installed on new customer sites as a client/server solution. Regards, Sunil

3297.3 | What about hard coded devices...? | WOTVAX::DORANA | Return of the killer jellyfish | Tue Sep 21 1993 13:06 | 16 |
I agree with Sunil... Having been a Specialist until recently (I've just gone back to I.S. ..!!!), there were a number of occasions when I have been involved in sorting out systems after ALL-IN-1 had been installed strangely. The most common for me was not moving ALl-IN-1 off the system disk, but changing device specific references (ie $1$DUA2:) from the ALL-IN-1 config files. This for me was the biggest pain - especially trying to explain that using hard coded devices in installation procedures is not recommended, after a deccie has done it... Is a 'hints and tips for installing/configuring ALL-IN-1 systems' not available? Maybe it needs writing...;^) Andy

Hi, Perhaps it is a little bit of overkill, but the ISA Performance and Configuration Guide contains a chapter about configuring ALL-IN-1. Regards, Jan
