My customer would like to be able to use a template document when creating a mail message much like can be done when creating a word processing document. Sounds reasonable to me. Can it be done? BS

The quick answer is that the API exists (MAIL CREATE /TEMPLATE) but the UI would need to be modified to make use of it. How much customisation are you willing to do? Dick

Dick, I don't know how I overlooked that option in the manual. What I wanted to do was to use a different template file based on what the user enters into a classification field I have added to the EMHEAD form. Of course by that time, the "MAIL CREATE" function has already begun. To get it to work, I have added "/NOEDIT" to the "MAIL CREATE". Then, I determine the RMS filename of the template file based on the classification entered. Next, I copy the template file in place of the file just created. Then put the user in the editor. Since the EMHEAD form is accessed as part of the "MAIL CREATE" function, I can't find a way to use the "/TEMPLATE" for my purpose. What I have done seems to be working fine though. Thanks, BS
3146.3 | Looks fine | IOSG::CARLIN | Dick Carlin IOSG, Reading, England | Tue Aug 17 1993 17:13 | 7 |
You are right. CREATE /TEMPLATE doesn't help much. What you are doing sounds fine. Just one thing though, when you say "put the user in the editor" are you following the same MAIL EDIT path that the E option in EM follows? This way you will correctly invoke reservation and protect the document during editing if the main drawer is shared. Dick
