3127.0. "Copying V2.4 from VMS 5.4 to V5.5 system" by WELCLU::WELPC3::LI (Sau Ha Li @WLO) Tue Aug 10 1993 16:49

Hello All,

A customer would like to copy their ALL-IN-1 v2.4 system (incl. MR, Notes,
etc) to a development system. I have read the section in Tony Redmond's book
on moving ALL-IN-1 to another disk and I assume I can use these steps to copy
ALL-IN-1 across. However, the development system only support VMS V5.5 and
the productive system is running V5.4.

My questions are:

1. Do I just need to use BACKUP command to copy all the files from disk on
productive system to disk on development system, althought they are running
different VMS version ?

2. Do I need to relink ALL-IN-1 ? Do I need to do anything on FMS after I
have copied the files across?

thanks in advance,
Sau Ha

    I'd relink ALL-IN-1 on the basis that it can't really be of any great
    harm to the system and could stop some funnies creeping into play.
    It'll only take 5-20 minutes (depending on the CPU) so it seems that
    the best thing to do is to relink.

    Practice safe ALL-IN-1.

3127.2No harm? WELCLU::WELPC3::LISau Ha Li @WLOTue Aug 17 1993 09:068
Hello,

Since there is no mention of problems, then I assume that there is no harm in
copying ALL-IN-1 to a system with a different version of VMS.

thanks & regards,

    Relink after move as Tony suggests. Remeber that there are files in the
    system directories you will need as well. You'll need to install the
    ALLIN1 (sic) command verb from OA$LIB:A1.CLD on the new system. Also
    help etc. FMS should be (re)installed on new system before move and
    relink. Message Router?
