3121.0. "Wrong language installed in Oz, should have been US" by TINNIE::SETHI (Illegal alien when legal !!!) Mon Aug 09 1993 11:56

Hi All,

A customer has Version 3.0 installed but has installed the wrong
component. In Australia we use the US language but US_GB dialect.
The customer has installed GB as the language and is having problems
with dictionaries they are American as well as housekeeping routines.
A Stars article pointed out why the HK's were failing.

IS there a way of deinstalling the language component and installing
the correct one ? Unfortunately they have upgraded on their live
systems about 25.

Regards,

I'm confused:

<<< In Australia we use the US language but US_GB dialect

In which case, you don't use the US language, you use British, the
US_GB dialect is just a cheap trick we perpetrated in V3.0 to avoid
building a separate British kit.

If they have installed GB as you say, then they ought to have got the
British dictionaries.

Whatever has happened, probably the simplest plan would be to install
the correct language as a second language, although you might need a
second language licence temporarily, and then remove the wrong one.
After that, you'd need to make th second language into the primary
language.

Chris (IOSG::HALLC) documented how to do this in here somewhere
recently.

3121.2Would install update do the trick ?BUSHIE::SETHIMy name is Sunil without the HMon Sep 27 1993 06:1418
Hi Graham,

In Oz we are a bit different in that we install the US language and
market component and the US_GB dialect. That's how all our customers
go about installing the Aussie flavoured version of IOS.

Would an install update do the trick ? In that we can run the
VMSINSTAL procedure and choose to update the installation and choose
the correct dialect ? This would overwrite the incorrect files etc.
and give us the Aussie flavoured version of IOS.

Regards,

3121.3No, can't be done.IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeMon Nov 01 1993 11:165
Belatedly, no that won't work, because the update will only update the
same language. You can't change British into American or vice versa
with any standard installation options.
