3100.0. "Defining Print Styles" by KERNEL::SMITHERSJ (Living on the culinary edge....) Tue Aug 03 1993 18:07

Can someone explain where the defaults for printing with
Gold E are set up from? My Print Style is LN03 for example.
The Printer Type for LN03 shows

      Burst page: Changeable: Y Value:
      Flag page: Changeable: Y Value:
      Trailer page: Changeable: Y Value:
      Form feed: Changeable: Y Value:

And when I try changing the above I can indeed change them to Y
or N. If I set changeable to N for the Printer Type for LN03,
when I try to Gold E it doesn't let me get to the Burst Page etc
..... I understand that. However.... what I don't understand is
why some users have different values in those fields since they
cannot be saved and the settings are taken from the LN03 Printer
Type. I looked to see if the user had a UPS defined but they hadn't.

The documentation on page 13-11 of the Management Guide is slightly
confusing too as regards the Addtional Printer Flag and setting
N A or F. It implies that dependant on the value, you do not need
to fill in further fields, whereas it always prompts me to do so.

Could someone clarify the above points?

    Thanks

1. The values will come from the user's Default Printing Settings, which
are set by the UPS PO option. Gold-E displays the values that will be used
for the print job. These are derived from the selected User or System
Print Style, and if that doesn't specify a value for a field, the user's
default is used, and if that doesn't specify a value a predefined default
value is used.

2. This is a known problem. The 'Changeable' fields are defined as 'must
have a value' so have to be filled in. The other fields for each setting
can be left blank.
