3097.0. "FCS in Stopped status, detached processes still there" by TINNIE::SETHI (It's not wise to have wisdom teeth) Tue Aug 03 1993 02:13
Hi All,
A customer has ALL-IN-1 IOS 3.0-1 and OpenVMS 5.5-2 installed and is
having problems with the FCS. Typically all users on the system are
unable to access any drawers or carry out any drawer operations, the
login sessions just hang. Normally they have over a hundred users
logged in *but not* always, like this morning they had well under a 100
users. The server was tuned as per the manual.
When the customer goes into the Manage Server (SM MFC MS), the server
is in stopped state. Doing a show system you can see the server
process (TWDL03$SRV73 HIB and the OA$FCV SUSP), you cannot start the
server as the process name already exists. The customer has to do a
stop/id on the above processes than restart the server from the ALL-IN-1
managers account.
The logfile oa$server.log has no error messages apart from some from
the day before, the logfile is only 3 blocks. It contained the
following:
1-AUG-1993 11:36:07.64 Server: TWDL03::"73=" Error:
%MCC-E-INVALIDTIME, invalid time specified Message: SrvTimeoutSysMan;
receive alert to terminate thread
A couple of times and nothing else. I am a bit stuck for ideas and
would be grateful for any help.
Regards,
Sunil

3097.1 | Problems probably caused by performance related issues | GIDDAY::SETHI | He's wound them up no end :-) | Wed Oct 13 1993 08:09 | 14 |
| Hi All,
This problem has been caused by the system being overloaded. Typically
we found that the system became CPU bound and at other times there was
excessive IO's.
The customer has know for quite a while that his system was running out
of resources and they required new hardware. The good thing is that
they have just signed on the dotted line for an Alpha ready box, which
is in the process of being delivered.
Regards,
Sunil
