3096.0. "V3.0 Co-Existant install & EARS V2.2?" by GANTRY::HULL (Digital Consulting [Delivery]/Motown) Mon Aug 02 1993 21:54

1. I just installed a Co-Ex V3.0 system over the weekend, and added the -1
patch to it. The customer also has V2.4 and EARS running on the same
cluster. We have the new EARS 2.2 kit, but I didn't install it on the
co-Ex system becuase it seems like it would collide with the existing
V2.4-compatible stuff already out there.

Is that correct, or is it safe to install it on a Co-Ex system? How does
it "hide" itself from the older system?

2. During the patch installation a message is displayed near the end that
really worried me: "Processing files in disk:[ALLIN1.LIB_xxx]" - except
[ALLIN1...] is the old V2.4 system!! The new Co-Ex is called
[ALLIN1V3...]. Did any damage occur because of the patch? I got no other
error messages and it says it completed successfully.

3. This site also has lots of A1 apps, kept external to A1 (or CM) using a
logical directory, etc. Since the .FLCs for the formlibs are currently
produced by the V2.4 system, if the .FLBs are recompiled from inside
V3.0-1, the resulting .FLCs will be incompatible with V2.4, correct? I
warned the customer not to PCF anything external to A1. Please confirm
this assumption.

Thanks in advance,

	Al

    Al,

    1) I've yet to see an SPD for EARS v2.2 so I don't know whether it can
    speak co-ex. neither of the people named in the Sales Update article
    announcing its retirement have been able to provide this. Of course
    you could ask the company who produce said product on DECUSserve.

    2) don't you have an open call at the CSC on this? do you see any new
       modified files in the wrong OA$LIB? maybe its just a hardcoded message
       in the install?

    3) I'm not a great advocate of co-ex in an environment that has any
       layered ALL-IN-1 products so i'm not the right person to ask.

3096.2patches on co-exIOSG::BILSBOROUGHSWBFSTue Aug 03 1993 09:288

    I don't think that installing patches on a co-ex system is supported.

    Can anyone confirm this?
