3065.0. "Personal licenses and pre-req software" by TENTO1::MARSHALLJ (Glad that the devil is red ......) Mon Jul 26 1993 17:51

*** Personal licensing and component software ***

    Hi,

Customer has a query on personal licensing and I think I've found the
    answer but need to check.

With ALL-IN-1 IOS capacity license, you receive the right to use the
component software (MR, CDA, Notes, FMS) and you can register valid LMF
licenses for these products by using the RL option offered as part of
the installlation process. Note 2501 clarifies this point.

When it comes to personal licensing, my gut feel was as no licenses of
the `personal' type exist for products such as FMS and MR, this would
be different in that prior to installing any of them you would have to
load a valid traditional/cluster-wide license ie purchase one. After
reading 2501 I'm not so sure.

If I have a ALLIN1-PERSONAL license loaded, when I kick of the
installation, what happens when I take the RL option ? If, as I
suspect, this installs the same `special' licenses Graham P. mentioned
in 2501, what would stop users of other products taking advantage of
the cluster-wide licenses from outside of IOS ??

Or am I just confused ???

    John,

I've never really understood licensing but since noone has been able to
help you with this note and assuming your customer still needs an
answer you should contact the Product Manager Dave Holt@REO who either
understands licensing or knows enough about it to confuse me!

I'm almost certain that the "special" licences work cluster wide. You
might have to go and load them on the other nodes though.
