3056.0. "2.4 English to 3.0 English upgrade?" by LARVAE::THAYER_S (TT: more famous than Garfield...!) Fri Jul 23 1993 12:51

Apologies in advance for what is probably a very dumb question,
but I'm a couple of years out of date with ALL-IN-1... I've tried
to search through this conference for the answer but it's rather
    large!

A customer has several ALL-IN-1 sites around the world, all of
which are system managed and upgraded from London. The upgrades
of all the sites to V3.0 are complete except for their Frankfurt
    site.

Frankfurt currently run ALL-IN-1 V2.4 English with German lexicons.
The customer wishes to upgrade to V3.0 but has been told that
upgrading English 2.4 to English 3.0 is not a supported option!!

To me this seems ridiculous but, as I say, I'm out of touch and
maybe there's something with the German lexicons that would make
    this unsupported???

Can anyone shed any light on this, please?

    Thanks for any help,
    Susi

    Hi,

of course it is allowed to update from V2.4 English to V3.0 English,
but you won't find any German dictionaries afterwards. The complete
spellchecking has changed with V3.0. If the Frankfurt site wants
German dictionaries, they have to buy and install them separately.

    	Stefan

PS: Sell him a German license as additional language :-)

   Hello Susi,

Sounds strange. I think it depends on the WPS-PLUS version, whether they
need new lexicons. 3.x and 4.x lexcicons are not compatible.

    Regards,

    Susi,

Which English? in the base note you say v2.4 ENGLISH to v3.0 ENGLISH
but in reply .4 you say v2.4 ENGLISH to v2.4 BRITISH.

BRITISH is not equal to ENGLISH and that upgrade path isn't supported

I sure hope that this isn't BArclays?

3056.6Depends what mood the customer is in!LARVAE::THAYER_STT: more famous than Garfield...!Fri Jul 23 1993 19:4425
    Andrew,

Yes, it's a bit confusing! This is what happened:

Customer called me in to discuss upgrading their 2.4 English to 3.0
British. Being the inquisitive type, I asked them why exactly they
would wish to do this, to which they replied that they had been assured
by someone (still trying to track down who!) that they could not
upgrade English to English because it wasn't supported!

So I asked whether or not they actually wanted English or British (as
the end result with 3.0) - they said they'd rather have English because
it was easier, but still insisted that it wasn't supported. So I said
    I'd find out.

Having confirmed that they could have English to English they are now
wondering whether they wouldn't rather have British (as all their other
systems are British - hence my note 3057).

I've left the ball in their court since it appears that we can give
    them whatever they want anyway.

    Sorry about the confusion,
    Susi
