3011.0. "ALL-IN-1 Starter upgrade from 2.4 to 3.0" by VNOAPP::TIMA_204410 (Plus en plus seule...) Thu Jul 15 1993 11:52

Hello !

Customer has a M3800 with ALL-IN-1 Starter 2.4, he has bought a new System
(M3100) and wonders how to do the upgrade to 3.0. His first thought was to
install 3.0 on the new node and transfer then the 2.4 accounts by tape, as
the two nodes have no DECnet connection. As far as I know now, is that the
profiles get converted, but a collegue gave me another input, believing it
would be better to upgrade 2.4 on the old node, to install 3.0 on the new node
and get the userdata restored from a backup on the new system.

Any supported hints??

Thanx

I'd recommend the path that doesn't involve Transfer User, as that way all the
'shared' data remains shared and you keep your disk usage down.

    Marianne,

There's nothing too different with doing this type of operation on
STARTER than with REAL ALL-IN-1 and you can find many notes in this
conference (or STARS) on recommedations for that.

I'd definitely avoid Transfer User in this case. I believe and Scott
(aka the entire ALL-IN-1 Starter development team) can confirm that Profile
is the only data file that is converted by the Upgrade and which you
would have to do manually after backing up the old profile.

    regards,
