3008.0. "TRU job and shut down ALL-IN-1?" by KERNEL::OTHENJ () Wed Jul 14 1993 17:27

Hello,

ALL-IN-1 v3.0

Can someone confirm a query I have with the TRU housekeeping job?

The customer is running TRU, and is following the management guide (10-9)
in not shutting down ALL-IN-1 prior to the job running. He has a problem
that users continually leave theirselves logged in, so the job fails.

He has tried running TRU after shutting down ALL-IN-1 (i.e. not following
the recommendation), and finds that the job appears to hang when the
executable oa$lib:oa$sm_fcvr is run, so he wants to know how to overcome
the problem of TRU failing due to users logging in.

I have read note 1239 which suggests either shutting down ALL-IN-1 prior to
running TRU , or closing down the FCS, which seems to conflict with the
Management Guide. Can someone tell me what the customer should be doing??

	Thanks,

		Julie

    Hi,

Your symptoms suggest that your customer is not running the right
version of TRU. Do a $dir oa$lib:oa$sm_fcvr.exe/dat and see whether the
old V2.3 patch version is being run.

    Cheers

    Hi

No, the oa$sm_fcvr.exe were all v.3 material.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

Have you tried running with the V3.0-1 patch - there are some TRU fixes
    in there?

    Cheers

    Hi,

The customers file oa$lib:OA$SM_FCVR.EXE has a date of this year, so it
must be v3.0, and they have already installed the patch v3.0-1.

Can I take it from all your replies that you SHOULD be able to run TRU
    while ALL-IN-1 is shutdown?

When the patch was applied, was a brand new copy of oa$sm_fcvr.exe
copied onto the system - I am just wondering if it is worth getting the
customer to make a direct copy of the executable from another v3.0-1
system and see if the hanging problem goes away!

    	Thanks,

    Hi Julie,

I'm not sure about it, but I had a similar problem at my favourite
    customers' site.

Check if he has a gerneric batch queue with more than 1 execution queue.
If so, check if one of the execution queues is stopped or something else
This can be the reason why a slave process never awakes.

Please check also the version limit of the <allin1> directory.
(device:[000000]allin1.dir) Maybe a logfile from the slaveprocess
    couldn't be created.

    Hhmmm, hope this helps you?

    Best regards

Yes - TRU should run in both situations - shutdown or still running. Do
also check the suggestion in .5 which is another possibility.

TRU should not fail if users are logged in - it is the TRM job that
    would fail in this situation.

In the TRU log file TRU declares which version it is running. Would you
please let us know which version is being announced.

    Cheers

    Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I tried running TRU while ALL-IN-1 was
shutdown on our system here, and found that it worked fine on our
system and gave the version as v3.1-5. I scheduled the housekeeping job
first, then run SDA from the SM menu.

The customer followed the exact same steps, and the log file also
showed v3.1-5, but it immediately came back in the log file and stated
that ALL-IN-1 must be started to run TRU , and the job failed! The
confusing thing is that he is running the same executable, so I am sure
    I must be missing something!!!!

If the customer does not shutdown ALL-IN-1 prior to the TRU job, the
job runs through correctly; the problem is only caused if he shuts down
    ALL-IN-1 first.

Any more ideas? I will post the TRU log file as soon as I recieve it in
case this gives us any clues.

By the way, they also have ICF 2 and 14, but I could not see that this
would make any difference from their descriptions.

    	Thanks,

3008.9Explanation of the naughty V wordIOSG::MAURICEDifferently hirsuteTue Jul 20 1993 17:2717
    Hi,

    V3.1-005 is correct!

The V3.1 version number crept in because V3.0-1 took the (then) current
version of TRU from the V3.1 library.

I don't know why it should be different at the customer site. The log
will help since we can search for where the error message occurs, when
we know what the exact text is.

One other module to check that the customer is running the right
    version is OA$LIB:OA$SM_FCVR_SCHEDULE.COM.

    Cheers

    Re .10

Version 3.0-13 is the V3.0 version. I haven't seen the patch that you
    can't talk about!!

    Cheers
