2999.1 | Use FILE$? | SCOTTC::MARSHALL | Spitfire Drivers Do It Topless | Tue Jul 13 1993 15:58 | 6 |
| The OA$DIR* datasets were sort-of superceded in V3.0 by FILE$. However, I don't
remember any intentional decision to un-document them.
Maybe you should try the IOSG::ALL-IN-1_DOCUMENTATION conference (KP7, etc).

2999.2 | And another SPR please | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | U.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there! | Tue Jul 13 1993 17:42 | 7 |
| Martin,
It's still a documentation error though.

2999.3 | No SPR - Thankyou! | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Tue Jul 13 1993 19:30 | 7 |
| No, it was definitely an intentional decision to undocument them. We do
that with all sorts of things that we are intending to no longer
enhance, but of course still support. The idea of removing them from
the books is that only old-timers will carry on using them, new
developers will find and use FILE$ instead.

2999.4 | Bad decision I reckon | IOSG::BILSBOROUGH | SWBFS | Tue Jul 13 1993 19:46 | 15 |
|
Well actually.
It was intentional to remove it but I bugged it sometime ago when I
couldn't find it. Anyway as far as I know it'll appear in the next
version of the books.
As far as I'm concerned ifit works then document it and say 'but you
should try and use FILE$'. The problem I had is I just wanted to check
how OA$DIR worked and couldn't find it. How would I know to look up
a new command I wouldn't know exist.

Mike

2999.5 | SPR still needed? | SCOTTC::MARSHALL | Spitfire Drivers Do It Topless | Wed Jul 14 1993 11:30 | 5 |
| re .3:
It is still a bug as the book refers the reader to a non-existent section!

| The bad reference is a bug, and I've noted it (and copied the
appropriate writer). It will be fixed, SPR or not.
