2999.0. "Description OA$DIR in documentation missing" by UTRTSC::SMEETS (Martin, CSC Office support (NL)) Tue Jul 13 1993 15:36

Hi,

ALL-IN-1 V3.0

The description of the OA$DIR DSAB (OA$DIR,OA$DIR_SEARCH and OA$DIR_PARSE) is
missing in the documentation although this description is refferenced on page
3-18 (Application programming reference volume 1) "See the OA$DIR DSAB in
chapter 8 in this volume".

Has this happened by accident or is there a good reason for this ?

Regards,

Martin

The OA$DIR* datasets were sort-of superceded in V3.0 by FILE$.  However, I don't
remember any intentional decision to un-document them.

Maybe you should try the IOSG::ALL-IN-1_DOCUMENTATION conference (KP7, etc).

    Martin,

    It's still a documentation error though.

2999.3No SPR - Thankyou!IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeTue Jul 13 1993 19:307
    No, it was definitely an intentional decision to undocument them. We do
    that with all sorts of things that we are intending to no longer
    enhance, but of course still support. The idea of removing them from
    the books is that only old-timers will carry on using them, new
    developers will find and use FILE$ instead.

2999.4Bad decision I reckonIOSG::BILSBOROUGHSWBFSTue Jul 13 1993 19:4615

    Well actually.

    It was intentional to remove it but I bugged it sometime ago when I
    couldn't find it. Anyway as far as I know it'll appear in the next
    version of the books.

    As far as I'm concerned ifit works then document it and say 'but you
    should try and use FILE$'. The problem I had is I just wanted to check
    how OA$DIR worked and couldn't find it. How would I know to look up
    a new command I wouldn't know exist.

2999.5SPR still needed?SCOTTC::MARSHALLSpitfire Drivers Do It ToplessWed Jul 14 1993 11:305
re .3:

It is still a bug as the book refers the reader to a non-existent section!

    The bad reference is a bug, and I've noted it (and copied the
    appropriate writer). It will be fixed, SPR or not.
