2993.0. "*WISH* nominating users to receive orphan drawers" by BUSHIE::SETHI (Ahhhh (-: an upside down smile from OZ) Mon Jul 12 1993 03:38

    Hi All,

I would like to place this suggestion on the *Wish List* if at all
possible. Currently when a user leaves the company the shared drawers
can be merged into another account via the System Policies option on
    the Manager ALL-IN-1 sub-system menu.

There is a restriction however in that only one user can be nominated
to receive ALL the shared drawers. What would be nice is if users
could be nominated to receive certain drawers or all of the drawers.
In other words "Holding account for orphan drawers" on a user by user
    bases.

This would mean that security of drawers could be maintained, ie those
people in a group will have been nominated to receive a drawer.

Has someone done any customisations in this area ? What needs to be
done to achive this currently as one of our users has an urgent need to
    this ?

I am not too sure how to achive this as I may miss a step or two out,
hence I am not too confident.

    Thanks for your help,

    Sunil

Interestingly, Sethi, with a lot of people leaving here, we have come
across the same 'wish' only last week. Thanks.

2993.3I'd vote for a more general applicationIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeMon Jul 12 1993 10:1811
Actually, I think we more generally need a Change Drawer Owner command,
so that you can hand a drawer over to someone else even if your account
    isn't deleted.

BTW most of the code is already available to customisers in the SM
scripts that are used by delete user and move disc, things like:
    SM_DELETE_DRAWER_HAND*.SCP and SM_MOVEDISK_DRAWER_HAND*.SCP.

PS Oh, and please let us have the code once you've developed it :-)

Hi,

In a previous life I was one of the system management developers who came up
with the scheme for the "Holding Account for Orphan Drawers". The idea was to
provide a simple last-chance, catch-all mechanism so that the account could be
deleted without loss of data.

For more complex operations, such as moving documents/drawers to multiple users,
we figured the system manager probably wouldn't want the bother of all that,
so the idea is that the ordinary users of the drawers should themselves save
all the documents they need before the account is blown away.

The holding account is just that - a temporary account to hold the drawers to
give the users time to save the documents in the event that the account must
be deleted in a hurry (eg for security reasons to prevent logins). The
holding account should not be considered as a new permanent owner for the
drawer.

As pre Graham's suggestion, I think the real wish should be for a more
generic "move drawer" or "change drawer owner" option, that users can use
themselves.

    Hi Dave,

    >Interestingly, Sethi, ..... etc.

And Dave I thought that we were on first name terms, what did I do
    wrong mate :-) ?

I must admit that I like GAP's idea it's much better than the one I
suggested, well sort of'ish ;-). I think there will be a demand for
    this as time goes by.

    >PS Oh, and please let us have the code once you've developed it :-)

I wish I had the time but the millions of calls prevent me from doing
anything else apart from taking calls. On the other hand you never
know I may get some time to have a look at the code and write
something, if I do I will post the code here.

    Regards,
