2992.0. "Can't run CART, Fatal error" by GANTRY::HULL (Digital Services Delivery - Motown) Sun Jul 11 1993 13:00

I am trying to get a good CART run at a customer site to begin planning
their A1 upgrade to V3.0. Friday a.m. I went on-site and ran the
installation and chose RC option. The CART procedure went through all it's
scanning, etc, to where it outputs:

Creating CART Summary report
Creating CART Full report
Creating CART Script
Creating Site Elements Report

moments after the last msg appears the system Stack Dumps with

%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=00, virtual
address=7FED0214  etc

  improperly handled condition, image exit forced.

Next output was the famous VMSINSTAL's "File will now be moved to their
target directories".

We are unable to find ANY CART output report files on the system.

Coincidentally, the customer called me on Saturday and said their system
disk had something go in and eat up nearly a GIG of disk space since
Friday morning. CART-related? I told her I didn't see how it could, as
the VMSINSTAL procedure finished both attempts.

This installation was being run from their VMS SYSTEM account. We tried it
again over lunch and it failed again in the same place. Needless to say,
it's somewhat embarassing to come in to run a simple planning tool for a
complex upgrade and have THAT fail. Ouch!

Here's some of the relevant settings for this acct:

SYSTEM acct
VMS V5.5-2 (I believe they said they just upgraded to that)
UAF:
Fillm=250
Biolm=150
Diolm=150
Astlm=306
Tqelm=80
Enqlm=2000
Bytlm=100000
Jtquota=10000
wsdef=1024
wsquota=9500
Wsextent=9500
Pgflquo=200000
All privs are default, etc

We need to get this fatal error fixed ASAP so we can plan the upgrade with
adequate lead time.

Help!!

2992.1Do you have a valid CART driver licence?AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Sun Jul 11 1993 19:2914
    Al,

    Would it still have been embarassing had you
    a) called the CSC
    b) read the STARS article entitled
       "Running the CART results in Access Violation"
       I know bit difficult to find that one (:==:)
    c) seen note 884 in this conference

    I believe you owe me a beer?

Andrew -

a. Yes it would still have been embarassing, as it still failed. Calling
CSC would still be after the fact. I was going to call them first thing
Monday morning when I got back.

b.  I don't have access to STARS

c. 884.38 is the apparent fix. Thanks for the pointer. I didn't have
much time to do a scan for prior notes. Sorry on that.

If I make it to Fall DECUS I'll definitely buy you a beer (assuming you're
there!).

Thanks - will pass info along to customer tomorrow a.m.
2992.3I'll get the beer sometime!AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Mon Jul 12 1993 06:1016
    Al,

    since you're an internal is there a reason why they won't let you have
    access to STARS - i thought all field type internals could get at it
    from FSIN.

    the STARS article is in fact based on Mike's note - we just translated
    it out of 'scouse' first and it does work.

    don't know about fall DECUS - it's kind of in the wrong direction for
    me and the INS might mistake it as an attempt to join my brother Vid in
    Mexico!

Andrew - no rodent abodes allowed! Anyway - it worked this time after I
entered the patched code.  Thanks.
