2990.0. "3.0-1 and OpenVMS V A5.5?" by MSAM03::DOUGLASBURKE (What's it all about...Alpha!!!) Sat Jul 10 1993 12:45

In the Release Notes for the Version 3.0-1 kit (THE PATCH), it states
    that the prerequisite software is:

OpenVMS Version 5.4 to Version 5.5-2, excluding Version 5.5.

I have looked all thought this conference but have not been able to
find the answer to this questions:

Does Version A5.5 fall into the "including" category, or the
    "excluding" category?

    Doug,

Both! the prerequisite versions of OpenVMS did not change between
3.0 and 3.0-1 of ALL-IN-1. This also means that all the related
queue manager, lock manager etc problems of 5.5 whether it be the A
or the V release are the same - see many hundreds of discussions on
this earlier in the conference. However the question might better
be asked of the OpenVMS group whether they still consider A5.5 to
be a supported release now we are 3 real releases down the road.

    Hi Andrew,

    >However the question might better
    >be asked of the OpenVMS group whether they still consider A5.5 to
    >be a supported release now we are 3 real releases down the road.

Firstly OpenVMS version 6.0 can only be installed on systems that have
version 5.5 or above, this excludes A5.5. This version is not
supported as far as I know here in Australia, customers are encouraged
to go to the latest release.

If the customers want to upgrade to 6.0 they can't if they have A5.5.

    Regards,
