2986.0. "ALL-IN-1 install/upgrade and CDA" by HTSC19::ALEXLUI () Fri Jul 09 1993 11:24

    Hi,

    Our client, having VMS 5.5-2, met the following situation:

    She had upgraded ALL-IN-1 from V2.4 to V3.0, without upgrading CDA from
    V1.0 to V1.1 (pre-requisite requirement). The installation is OK.

    Will there be any problem with running ALL-IN-1 V3.0 with CDA V1.0
    (actually it is their case now)?

    She could not locate a media for CDA V1.1. However, she found a saveset
    in the ALL-IN-1 media, naming CDAPAT011. Is this a patch for CDA V1.0
    making it version V1.1?

    She want to install ALL-IN-1 V3.0 in another system (having VMS 5.5-2)
    but there is no CDA installed there. Could ALL-IN-1 be successfully
    installed and run without CDA installed?

    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Alex

    There are several previous notes in here explaining CDA. Look for
    replies by Paul (IOSG::) Marchant.

    It's OK to have no CDA at all, we just don't let you do any of the
    conversions that require it.

2986.2Should have a tape with that nameAIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Fri Jul 09 1993 17:139
    Alex,

    To answer one of your base questions - the CDA 1.1 kit should have come
    on one of the TK50 or Mag Tapes your customer received. if it didn't
    then you should probably cut them a new one.

2986.3CDAPAT011 is patch to V1.1IOSG::BURTONALL-IN-1 BuilderMon Jul 12 1993 09:1313
    Alex,

    	The CDAPAT011.A saveset is a patch to the CDA V1.1 kit that is
    required for ALL-IN-1 V3.0. If you wish to use CDA with V3.0, you must
    upgrade CDA to V1.1 (using the media in the ALL-IN-1 V3.0 box), then
    install the CDAPAT011 saveset. I think you will then need to relink
    the ALL-IN-1 images.

    Hope this helps,

    Martin.

2986.4Can use V1.0; CDAPAT011 is something different altogetherIOSG::MARCHANTI'd sink therefore I swamTue Jul 13 1993 00:3210
    re: .3  - No it isn't.

    The CDAPAT011 kit has nothing to do with the Converter Libraries; it
    patches the CDA Base components.

    ALL-IN-1 will work with the V1.0 Converter Library. However, you may
    find that the results of the conversion(s) are not very good.

    Cheers,
        Paul.

    I am not ALL-IN-1 & CDA expert, could anyone tell me that what kind of
    "conversions" will be involved? What could be the side effect of "bad
    conversions"?

    What comment will you give if the client really do not want to install
    the CDA at all with ALL-IN-1 V3.0?

    Thanks
    Alex
