2981.1 | Not mandatory - depends on whether you sleep! | AIMTEC::WICKS_A | U.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there! | Thu Jul 08 1993 16:05 | 14 |
| Jackie,
No I wouldn't necessarily try to cram too much into one 2-day weekend.
the v3.0-1 takes a couple of hours - there's a relink, lots of form
libraries to recompile and the TXls - and it's all manual!!!
You should of course go to v3.0-1 as soon as possible after the
upgrade but I would have thought that the v2.3 upgrade would take care
of most of the available time.

Have a look at note 2356. Save time/typing.
v3.0-1 should not take more than 1 hour.
SFCP conversion needed ?

| Hi Jackie,
Since this patch is not mandatory I would not apply it unless the
customer has specific problems. My main reason for my suggestion is
that a problem has been introduced with the FCS, see note 2563.
The problems have been CLD'd and in a PFR they will hopefully be
solved. My personal advise would be not to install 3.0-1 for the time
being. Sorry developers of the patch this was definately not a good
patch.

Sunil

2981.6 | DNS$SHARE | UTRTSC::SCHOLLAERT | You name, we support it... | Fri Jul 09 1993 07:52 | 10 |
| Andrew,
No, no AWD for the patch.

Jan
by the way. Not correct installed DNS$SHARE is the main cause
of losing lots of time at customer sites.

2981.7 | Install it - but be prepared to go back | IOSG::CHINNICK | gone walkabout | Fri Jul 09 1993 11:08 | 14 |

RE: .5
The problem in Note 2563 is probably present in V3.0 too.
However, there may be other problems introduced by V3.0-1. In fact,
there was discussion to the effect that CSC's might take it off their
list of recommended patches. Nothing to this effect has happened
though so I presume that the major obstacles have been overcome.
My advice on V3.0-1 is to install it - but be aware that you may not be
able to live with it. This is true of all patches from support.

2981.8 | FCS can't see INBOX | CHRLIE::HUSTON | | Fri Jul 09 1993 14:36 | 12 |
|
There IS an introduced bug in the patch. It involves the use of
the INBOX when using the FCS to access it (cross drawer operation,
other peoples inbox etc). Basically the FCS cannot see the INBOX
when running V3.0-1. I BELIEVE (not sure) that there is/was a
ICF for this problem.
Can't speak for other problems that may/may not be in the patch, but
that one is there.

I am at the CSC and have not advertised this patch we only give this
patch out if absolutely neccessary. The fact is that we have only seen
the problem on sites with 3.0-1 installed. From time to time when I
log on to a customers system I look at the OAFC$SERVER.LOG and on sites
that don't have the patch we do not see the errors reported.
Bob is right about the problem with cross-filing I think note 2516 has
all the details of the problem and patch.
I must state that going by my experience and what customers have said
(especially the large sites), I wouldn't install it, wait for the MUP.
That's just my opinion no more no less.
Regards,
Sunil
