2961.0. "British English Spell Ckecker in ALL-IN-1 V3.0" by BACHUS::WILLEMSH () Mon Jul 05 1993 11:12

Hello,

Recently we upgraded ALL-IN-1 from V2.4 to V3.0 US language component at
customer's site. At installation time, one of the questions is
"Enter dialect code for this installation (5 characters) [NO_DIALECT]:"

We specified here no_dialect. After the upgrade the customer told us that
he used to have (in V2.4) the British English Spell Checker instead of
the AMERICAN master dictionary, which he has now.

We found in the A1DUS_GB030.A saveset the files called IBSFX528.DSK,
IBSFX528.RAM and LOOKUP_BRITISH.TXT.
We copied the .DSK and .RAM file to the LIC$LEXICONS directory and renamed
the LOOKUP_BRITISH.TXT to LOOKUP.TXT.

In ALL-IN-1 in WP - DIC - CMD , GOLD LIST gives us only BRITISH as possibility.
While editing a document, GOLD LANGUAGE AIDS, LANGUAGE, BRITISH is also the
only possibility, which is all correct.
But if we try the GOLD SPELL CHECK, the system says :
Iinitializing the Houghton Mifflin BRITISH Spell Checker ...
Spell Checker is not available
Press RETURN to continue

We tried to put on a trace and found to what the codes in LOOKUP.TXT means,
but we couldn't figure it out.

Can somebody tell us how we can fix this problem now ALL-IN-1 is already
upgraded ? Redo the installation just for this would be a enormous work, don't
you agree, and asking the customer to buy a license for the International
Lexicon, while it is included is not exceptable either. He does not need the
AMERICAN only the BRITISH spell checker.

Thanks in advance

2961.1Check the legality, before the technicality...IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeMon Jul 05 1993 11:4213
    What language did the customer use to have, was it English or British?

    If it was English, then they would only have been licensed to use the
    English spell check dictionaries. If they wanted to use British, then
    they would probably (in theory) have to pay extra for that.

    Of course it's relatively easy to fix this to mnake it work, but you
    should check the contract and see whether it's legal first.

    I think I've posted a note describing how to do this before, but if you
    can't find it, let me know, and I'll work out the details again.
