2934.0. "IOSG - Downsizing rumours and reality" by IOSG::PYE (Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice) Tue Jun 29 1993 10:33
In order to prevent any more rumours circulating, here are the facts:
It was announced yesterday that ten members of IOSG (the group primarily
responsible for the development of ALL-IN-1 IOS) are to be made redundant.
I will not name names here, although you may well see individual messages
from them elsewhere.
I will make one exception to the above rule, to tell you that the Group
Manager, Richard Merewood, has decided to leave Digital. Alf Pilgrim will
be taking over management of IOSG.
In spite of the above departures, we will be proceeding at top speed with
our existing commitments, which are to deliver the TeamLinks Connection
Package V2.0, on the date announced under non-disclosure on June 8th, and
to continue with the port of ALL-IN-1 IOS to Alpha AXP. And, of course, we
will continue to support the existing customer base.
A number of longer term activities for the group are in the planning stage,
which I believe will provide us with an assurance of our continued future
existence. Obviously I can't describe futures in this conference!
With this period of uncertainty almost at an end, and our future reasonably
secure, I'm sure that we can now return to concentrating on meeting our
commitments.

| Everyone in Digital is going through bad times right now, and it's not
surprising that IOSG have been hit. It's good to know that the major
and necessary developments, especially in the PC connectivity space,
are going to progress. On a personal level I am sorry to see people
leave, but life must go on.
Always supportive, Tony

I hope people realise that this cut in IOSG does not say anything
about the future of our favorite product. Lots of engineering groups
are hit even worst. 3.0 had a warm welcome in Holland and RoadRunner is
going to help IOS stay alive and kicking for a long time.
I want to thank all IOSG engineers who have to leave for the
support they gave the field throught this note file.

| I hope this isn't too late but,
On behalf of the Canadian CSC, I'd like to thank all the departing
engineers for their hard work and dedication in a product that has kept
me working - and busy - here @ Digital for 6 years now.
Good luck to all and keep up the good work.

| It's sad to see our friends leaving we have had great support from all
of you. I have only been with Digital for a relatively short time but
I have to say the level of enthusiasm and dedication shown is beyond
words.
The loss of so many people of this calibre is a far greater loss for
Digital. Great working with you all and no doubt you will all be an
asset for any company you work for.
Good luck not that you need it.
Regards,
Sunil
