2896.0. "%MCC-E, IN_USE_ERROR,ALTERT-TERMREQ, IUID, DOCDB, SPR" by BUSHIE::SETHI (Ahhhh (-: an upside down smile from OZ) Tue Jun 22 1993 03:57

    Hi All,

A customer has ALL-IN-1 IOS 3.0-1 installed and does not have DNS
enabled. The customer has noticed a number of error in the
oafc$server.log, I am including a few of them here, there is a logfile
of my login session on RIPPER::USER$TSC:[SETHI]Q62167.LOG;1, which
    contains alot more details.

Some of the errors I have explained away but I am have a few problems
with one's below. Can someone explain to me what these errors mean ?

    Regards,

2896.1A totally less than serious response (:==:)AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Tue Jun 22 1993 05:4118
    sunil,

is this a test or something do you ever try using anything other than the
File Cab server??? which particular error are you concerned about?

Internal error in the file cabinet server means
"somewhere in all that funny C code that comprises the file Cab server
there has been an error, internally"

MCC termination thread is actually a typo (it should be threat) and means
"if you don't stop embarrasing England at cricket they threaten to
terminate your membership of the MCC"

Please submit an SPR - well you know what that means (:==:)

    regards,

    Hi Andrew,

    >is this a test or something do you ever try using anything other than the
    >File Cab server??? which particular error are you concerned about?

Just our big customers are starting to bother us no end about FCS
problems. If someone up there can do something to get the problems
solved *WE* Downunder would be grateful, customers are getting slightly
    unset to say the least.

    >MCC termination thread is actually a typo (it should be threat) and means
    >"if you don't stop embarrasing England at cricket they threaten to
    >terminate your membership of the MCC"

So you are trying to tell me ALL-IN-1 actually has in-built
functionality to give cricket results ;-). Andrew I get the feeling
that you are have a good laugh Up there and your personal name slightly
    hints at that ;0).

    >Please submit an SPR - well you know what that means (:==:)

I better not say might upset someone, I don't want to do that now :-).

2896.3What's an ACCVIO between friends?IOSG::CHINNICKgone walkaboutTue Jun 22 1993 10:5915
    Hi Sunil...

Let me answer this quickly by telling you that the only problems in the
message you quoted were the FCS access violations.

Unfortunately, there is no way I can tell you what these were because
FCS doesn't give any information on the subject. This might change in a
    PFR however!

But... we get them too so don't feel as though your being singled out! :-)

An SPR is not likely to tell you any more than this.

    Paul.

2896.4Here's one you can n explain (unlike our cricket!)IOSG::SHOVEDave Shove -- REO2-G/M6Tue Jun 22 1993 13:199
The ones about DOCDB file/dev id not matching aren't serious. What they
mean is that a user's DOCDB.DAT file has got moved (by DCL COPY,
CONVERT etc) and so has a new RMS fileid. The FCS stores the fileids as
it's a more efficient way to access files, but it detects when they are
incorrect and updates its record of the new fileid (after opening
DOCDB.DAT by name) so it won't happen again for that user (until the
    file moves again).

    Dave.

re .4

If the file id "errors" aren't really errors at all, why do they have -E-
severity. Surely they should be -I-, or maybe -W-? The message text shouldn't
contain the word "error" either.

2896.6Wouldn't you like it to work first?IOSG::CHINNICKgone walkaboutTue Jun 22 1993 16:468

    Pick... pick... pick...

Of course, if you are volunteering...? Just drop by and I'll point you
    in the right direction!

I wasn't saying that it is right or wrong, just curious about the philosophy
behind making it -E-

I'm trying to supress these messages (well some of them).

    Paul.

Hi Dave, Paul and Beam me up Scottie :-),

I had read a reply to a topic about FCS problems and the bit about the
fileids was mentioned. What bothered the customer was the "-E-" and
this customer (DHHCS - for those of you who have had dealing with
them), are getting a bit upset at times. I like the explaination about
DOCDB error made me feel alot more confident talking to the customer,
you need that extra bit of information sometimes.

When you have a customer who feels a bit upset I guess you have to go
the extra mile or two to make them feel they are special :-).

Are there any plans to documents some of these errors in a manual ?
Can we have a list of these messages and what they mean in Stars so that
we can all become star watchers and fortune tellers :-) ?

    Regards,

    Sunil
