Hi A customer with ALL-IN-1 V3.0 (English) has some problems with File Cabinet Server. From time to time some users can't access some documents. When they want to read the document, ALL-IN-1 says: "in use". They also can't edit this document. I tried to copy the document with DCL command but did get the message: -RMS-E-FLK, file currently locked by another user With $SH DEVICE/FILE i did not see this file!!! When I stopped the server and started it again, everything worked fine. Another time I had the same access-problem but then I saw that node$SRV73 did lock the file. Anyway why does the server lock documents (even from the main drawer) and what can I do against this access-problem. Ursi

2876.1 | FCS rarely locks the content file | CHRLIE::HUSTON | Thu Jun 17 1993 15:34 | 16 | |
The FCS rarely locks an actual content of a document, it is only locked while the FCS is explicitly touching it, in other words, actually doing a read/write of the RMS file. This would not take more than a few seconds (dependant on the doc size of course). If you are talking about documents in your own main drawer, then IOS accesses it directly, not via the FCS, if it is someone elses main drawer then the FCS is used. Also there are some instances where IOS uses FAL to get to documents rather than the FCS. This is only when the document is on a remote system though. --Bob |
