2873.0. "Beyond V3.0???" by SLICER::ROD (Paradise Awaits!) Wed Jun 16 1993 20:42

My customer would like to know if there is anything going on with
ALL-IN-1 beyond V3.0. They have yet to get to V3.0 (scheduled soon
though), but because of their use of KEYpak. Is it true KEYpak is up
to a year behind on ALL-IN-1 releases?

Here are their questions. Without giving exact dates, maybe someone
could fill me in on where it's going. Thanks for your help.

    1. How long will V2.4 be supported?

            A. Typically until the next release (V3.1)
The current release plus 1 back is usual

    [[[ Is this a correct answer???? ]]]

    2. Is there an ALL-IN-1 V3.1 in development yet?
Any time frame - this year?

    3. Any time frame for ALL-IN-1 V4.0 ? Or are they thinking of a series
of point releases for 3.0 ?

The reason they want some idea is so that they can understand their
"risk" with KEYpak. There has been almost a year from when ALL-IN-1
V3.0 was released until the corresponsing KEYpak verson was released.
They do not want to run into this with future releases of ALL-IN-1. If
KEYpak isn't able to "keep up" with ALL-IN-1 releases they are going to
have to look for another solution for KEYpak. They don't want any type
of EXACT date, just are these things coming and in whose lifetime.

2873.2No futures - but ask Ann?AIMTEC::WICKS_AU.S.A 2 England 0 - I was there!Wed Jun 16 1993 21:4116
    ROD,

Also please note that futures questions are not dealt with in
this notesfile but in ABBOTT::A1INFO so i'm going to answer your
    questions in here.

I am also fairly sure that there is already a release of KEYpak out
there that works with v3.0 so there is no reason for your customer
    to hold back any more

Indeed the near legendary Ann Harris of 3M fame indicated so in 2524
    and she's in Minnesota somewhere...

2873.3No V3.0, no future PC plug and playSIOG::T_REDMONDThoughts of an Idle MindTue Jun 22 1993 20:3916
One item that can be said in an open conference is this:

Digital is quite specific about the fact that there will be no
possibility of future/planned PC interconnectivity functionality
working with any version of ALL-IN-1 prior to 3.0. This is because
V3.0 includes some "hidden" functionality that is exploited by the
addition of items such as the TeamLinks Connection Package V2.0. If
the version of ALL-IN-1 a customer is running doesn't possess the hooks
then clearly they're out of the TeamLinks ballpark.

There is no reason for people to hold back from V3.0. It is easier to
work with than previous versions, has less bugs, is more reliable, and
after the (initial, short) pain of migration they should have a fun
time and be well prepared to face the future.
