2856.0. "Nicknames for Sender (CNS) EM$CNS" by VNABRW::EHRLICH_K (Health & a long life with you) Mon Jun 14 1993 10:12

Hi,

  I don't know whether this is a restriction or a known problem. I haven't
found something else in STARS or in this conference. Nickname-behaviour
with option EM CNS (ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1 English/German...)

Creating a nickname from sender (e.g. a X.400 Address) results in a unusable
nickname:
                      Create Nickname for Sender

 Address:  GEORG ESTELMANN@4=N1@5=BMLF@3=BMLF@2=ADA@1=AT@MRX_ADA@DE____________
           CAUX@VNO____________________________________________________________

 Nickname:

Sending a mail to this nickname fails, because of the blanks between @DE CAUX.

Part of Named Data of form EM$CNS:
;;ADDRESS1;;
/GET_SAVE = #EMAON:56/HARD=OA$_GBL_HRD_ADD_LINE_1
;;ADDRESS2;;
/GET_SAVE = #EMAON:78:56/HARD=OA$_GBL_HRD_ADD_LINE_2
;;ADDRESS3;;
/GET_SAVE = #EMAON:78:134/HARD=OA$_GBL_HRD_ADD_LINE_3
;;ADDRESS4;;
/GET_SAVE = #EMAON:78:212/HARD=OA$_GBL_HRD_ADD_LINE_4

Original Fieldlength:
     Form   EM$CNS                           | Len | Row | Col | Posn | Set
    Field:  ADDRESS1                         |  68 |  15 |  12 |    0 |  0
    Field:  ADDRESS2                         |  68 |  16 |  12 |   68 |  0
    Field:  ADDRESS3                         |  68 |  17 |  12 |  136 |  0
    Field:  ADDRESS4                         |  68 |  18 |  12 |  204 |  0
    Field:  NICKNAME                         |  15 |  20 |  12 |  272 |  0

I think the size to display and to store (WRITE ADD ...) the ADDRESS* fields
is incorrect, the real length should be 68 nstead of 56.

But in form NIENTR the fieldlength looks also a little bit different.

     Form   NIENTR                           | Len | Row | Col | Posn | Set
    Field:  NICKNAME                         |  15 |  16 |  16 |    0 |  0
    Field:  REALNAME                         |  64 |  18 |  16 |   15 |  0
    Field:  REALNAME2                        |  64 |  19 |  16 |   79 |  0
    Field:  REALNAME3                        |  64 |  20 |  16 |  143 |  0
    Field:  REALNAME4                        |  64 |  21 |  16 |  207 |  0

Only 64 bytes long!

And the story goes on: Looking at the OA$LIB:OANICKNAMES.FDL the record length
is 305 bytes (not 272)

        NAME                    OANICKNAMES.DAT
        ORGANIZATION            indexed
        PROTECTION              (system:RWED, owner:RWED, group:RE, world:)

RECORD
        BLOCK_SPAN              yes
        CARRIAGE_CONTROL        none
        FORMAT                  fixed
        SIZE                    305

Please, can you bring me here some light in my darkness? Which size is now
the correct one ??? I'm a little bit confused, really.

Kind regards

    Dear Andy,

    	nice to read the answer from you. I've now checked STARS and found
    the article

    A1 3.0 Prb using Nickname generated by CNS (Create nickname for sender)
    (dated 6-may-1993)

    So I must really apologize for this entry (.0). I must better look for
    the right thing. Don't know why I didn't find it yesterday, I believe
    it must be monday_life!

    Best regards
