    I have a large customer site where consideration is being give to
    upgrading to V3 from 2.4.
    
    At present, the 5500 or so users tend to use the system for mail.  They
    are spread over three RA90's and occupy about 1045 blocks each - we
    don't have a lot of space!
    
    We are currently looking at a pre upgrade hardware upgrade, perhaps
    trying to spread the users over 5 spindles instead of three (3 X RA90 +
    2 X RA72).
    
    The low private area usage tells me that they are mostly using mail -
    fine we can cope with that - we have lots of other disks.  But
    something tells me that post V3.0 the user areas are going to occupy
    more space than they do now.  We don't have any documentation on site
    so I can't look it up.
    
    The question is:
    
    1.	Will the existing file cabs / private areas get larger post upgrade
    and if so by how much?
    
    2.	What will be the new 'default' size of a cabinet post upgrade when
    we start created new accounts?

	Perhaps it's just an urban myth - unfortunately, I don't have a 3.0 system to get onto nor do I have a doc set here - maybe there's no difference at all - only someone with access to a 3.0 can tell me! Regards, Peter.

	Each user will get the following new files, not necessarily all of them, it depends what features they use: ACCESS.DAT 0 FILECAB.DAT 108 OA$USERPRINTSTYLES.DAT 24 OANICKNAMES.DAT ?? (Converted from NICKNAMES - may increase) RESERVATIONS.DAT 62 RESERVE_LIST.DAT 10 The sizes come from the initial allocations in the FDLs. IMHO, the initial size of the FILECAB.DAT file could be drastically reduced by editing the FDL. Make sure the extent is still set to a reasonable number so that "power" users get it back to a sensible size quickly. Graham

	Hi &rew, Its not that the files get 'bigger' - its that there are more (.3) files in the directory. In addition, the ALL-IN-1 sub-directory structure is repeated for each additional drawer. Over time, depending on the drawer usage on Peter's system, this will also cause increased disk consumption ... Hthy, Ron

	Re: .3 Another new file is OA$TEMP.DIR, and any files in this directory. However, the new housekeeping option to clear the temporary file directories makes it much easier to delete any lost temporary files. Richard
