2819.0. "Processes in MWAIT running OA$MAIN" by MIMS::MORABITO_P () Mon Jun 07 1993 22:35

I have a customer who recently had a problem that was reported by DECps.
DECps found four processes that had been hung in MWAIT in excess of two
minutes. The four processes were running the OA$MAIN image. These are
captive users. The event code flag was RSN$_MAILBOX. A specialist
from the VMS group determined that this problem was caused by the OA$MAIN
image being unable to write to a mailbox, I assume the DCLMAILBOX. He
recommended that DEFMBXBUFQUO may need to be increased. I guess my question
is how to determine what to set DEFMBXBUFQUO, and why would only four
users experience this problem?

	VMS 5.5-2
	ALL-IN-1 3.0-1

	Parameters

	DEFMBXBUFQUO 	1056
	DEFMBXMXMSG	 256

Thanks,

Paul

    Paul,

    my openeing two questions are....

    1) do you know what files the users had locked at the time?
    2) are you sure it wasn't OAMAILBOX?

    regards,

2819.2Unable to troubleshoot problemMIMS::MORABITO_PMon Jun 14 1993 17:3913
    Hi Andrew,

    Glad to have you back in town after you watched England get beat.
    In response to your questions, DECps did not provide information
    as to what files were being accessed. The customer was only
    aware of the situation when DECps reported it. The customer
    did not troubleshoot the problem as it happened. The four
    users in question had the hang in a 30 minute time period. Since
    then there has been no hangs. I told him to keep checking the DECps
    reports. I guess there is no way to know if it was the OAMAILBOX
    or not.
