2777.0. "Apostrophe, quote, disallowed in GPC membername" by OASS::ADAMS_S () Fri May 28 1993 19:10

    Could someone explain the restriction introduced in ALL-IN-1 V3.0 by
    OAN$ADD$MEMBER.FRM that the "username" field cannot contain quotes or
    apostrophes? This did not appear to be a restriction in V2.4. There
    must be a number of names like "O'Conner, O'Hara, O'Leary," etc. out
    there...

    Thanks!

    I can't remember the exact details but there were changes made in this
    area to solve some problems that had been reported. However, I am
    pretty sure that names like these were tested... Must have been a bad
    night! Have you tried with 3.0-1?

2777.2No apostrophes in GPC AM USERNAME (V3.0-1)OASS::ADAMS_SThu Jun 03 1993 19:4127
    These are my findings under V3.0-1 so far. I have requested feedback
    from an ALL-IN-1 support specialist to make sure I did not leave
    anything out or do anything wrong, but 'believe this to be accurate.

    I created an account in ALL-IN-1 on AMERIG called O'HARE but am not
    sure I entered the correct account details. I completed the test
    enough to learn that when you attempt to add a member in GPC with a
    username containing an apostrophe, you will get the message

    	"Usernames cannot contain quotation marks"

    but it appeared to add the member anyway, i.e., it was listed
    when I did ICM. When I added the member it also gave me the message

    	"access name AMERIG::ADAMS_S already exists for another member."

    I tried to add another member with username O'LEARY, and it gave
    me the "Usernames cannot contain quotation marks" message again but
    would NOT let me go further.

    At any rate, the original problem noted in 2777.0 appears to still be a
    problem in V3.0-1. Should I submit an elevation on this or is there
    already an "SPR" for it?

    Thanks.

2777.3NOTES problem?IOSG::MAURICENight rolls in, my dark companionFri Jun 04 1993 09:1211
    Hi,

    I looked back to find where and why this changed was made in V3.0.
    Apparently it was put in because NOTES did not work in all cases if the
    member name contained a quote. In particular FORWARD/MEMBERS was cited
    as something that didn't work. Since you have managed to add such a
    member, could you check whether this is still a problem with NOTES.

    Cheers

2777.4apostrophes in usernamesOASS::ADAMS_SMon Sep 27 1993 19:289
    Could someone out there please reply to this inquiry again? The
    apostrophe restriction applies under ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1 as well as V3.0.
    Are there plans to correct this? Is this not a fairly common problem
    or are people just working around it by leaving the apostrophe out of
    names?

    Thank you...
