2733.0. "Upgrade Consulting Package exist?" by DPDMAI::RITZC () Wed May 19 1993 18:15

    At one time Digital offered customers a consulting package for
    upgrading their ALL-IN-1 IOS from one version to the next.

    Does the package still exist?

    If so, who is the contact for a description?

    Thx.						Carol Ritz

    Page 10 of this week's digital today calls them
    "The ALL-IN-1 V3.0 Migration Assessment Service"
    "The ALL-IN-1 v3.0 Upgrade Service"
    "The ALL-IN-1 Customisation Service"
    "The ALL-IN-1 v3.0 Personal Assistant/TeamRoute Startup Service"

    Of course if the customer had the following SPS service on their
    contract then we would advise them and do the upgrade for them.

    S.U.I.S - Software Update Installation Service.

    Well that's what it's called in Europe, failing that Mr Wicks's info in
    .3 is the way to go.

    Re .3

    Andrew,

    What week's digital today is that in? It's the first formal offering
    of a service for V3.x that I have heard of.

    Nancy

    p.s. Local offices have been known to do ALL-IN-1 upgrades and even
          consulting !
                                      8^)
2733.6As long as digital gets the dosh!AIMTEC::WICKS_AAlphatraz - Coming Summer 93Sat May 22 1993 02:0416
    Nancy,

    it's in this week's issue (steve martin is quoted as the man behind
    the announcement fwiw!).

    I have no problem with local offices doing the upgrades - after all
    DIGITAL still gets the money. We only got into this business since
    there a lot of areas of this country where there aren't any (good)
    office specialists after last autumn's cull.

    I am sure we can discuss this off-line. i heard a rumour that you
    will be visiting Alpharetta in late june - is this true?

    regards,

    Andrew.D.Wicks
2733.7Sounds like a 10-ale conversationRESTRT::LATIMEREastern States Product SupportMon May 24 1993 20:2439
    Hi Andrew,

    Yes, I will be visiting and am looking forward to seeing everyone
    again; it's been awhile.

    I found the article. Interesting...the only way we can find out what
    it is we are supposed to be delivering is to go to DECUS. I'm sure I can
    just hop on a plane for that, no questions asked .....NOT !

    Yes, I'd like to discuss this more with you, as it seems to me that
    many of us are competing for the same business these days! Not just
    field/CSC but also, and more prevalent, the field vs. the field.
    For example:

    Customer: "I'd like an ALL-IN-1 upgrade please."
    DECstart group: "Fine, that will be a flat rate of $5000.00".
    SWS group: "No problem, we'll do that for you for 150.00 hour or
                 30K, whichever comes first".
    Atlanta: "We have people who can fly to you at a given minute for
               $200/hr."
    Colorado: "If you have SUIS, then we will do that for you remotely."
    Local Field Service: "Covered under your contract, no additional
                           charge".

    [Excuse the use of old names for the various groups, but such terms as
    Multivendor Customer Services really sort of stick in my throat].

    So now that we have all of these neat new services according to the
    "digital today" article, wouldn't it be nice to know just what they are
    so we can ignore them all and proceed to do it 100 different ways
    anyway! Anyway, these services are all so timely, too.....only a year
    too late!

    grumble grumble

    Nancy

2733.8My favourite joke at the moment!AIMTEC::WICKS_AAlphatraz - Coming Summer 93Mon May 24 1993 20:5616
    Nancy,

    {risking incurring the wrath of a fellow moderator}

    Have you heard the one about what MCS really stands for?

    Customer dials 1-800-354-9000 (the U.S CSC number)

    Person on other end: "Good Morning, Microsoft Customer Support,
                         how may I help you?"

    Well I thought it was funny...

    Regards,

    If ALL-IN-1 upgraders are so hard to come by, how come I got "the
    package" in October? Surely they could have used me somewhere that
    month.

    Not really complaining, since I got a reprieve and I'm currently doing
    an upgrade as we speak, for a good customer, besides.
