2719.0. "3.0 and Arabic test" by EVOAI2::BOURDARIAS () Mon May 17 1993 12:24

I have a customer witch use VT320-73 arabe and print on LN03 with
Arabic LN03X-CA to print arabic text from french ALL-IN-1 3.0.

When he prints, the first line is writting from write to left (that's ok)
and the following lines of the paragraph are writting from left to write.
(It is correct on the screen of the VT)

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks,
    Sylvie.

    Hi Sylvie,

I don't know too much about the Arabic version of the LN03 - if it's
done how I think it was it uses a modified Print Symbiont to perform
the page formatting for mixed Arabic and Latin script. (There was an
earlier attempt at the LN03 to put this processing in ROM which I don't
believe ever saw the light of day).

[I engineered FMS/Arabic when the VT320 was being developed but left the
group before the LN03 support was done. And I don't speak or read
    Arabic I'm afraid.]

I think you will need to look at the .LIS file which is spooled to the
printer to see what data it contains. It may be that some escape or
control sequences in the formatted output file are interfering with the
symbiont processing of the text contents.

Is this document using the eight-bit form of Arabic characters on the
VT320 ?? [as opposed to the language shift characters which can be used].

And what editor in ALL-IN-1 was used to create the document? Try to get
the document in a simple form using EDT or EVE editors.

What PRINTER type are you specifying for the print request? - I'd try a
really simple one like LP11 to see if that makes a difference.

Not much else to suggest without some idea of what is being spooled and
    hence what is going wrong.

    Paul.
