2715.0. "Advice needed: A1 2.4 w/sfcp to 3.0 migration" by SOLVIT::ROHNERT () Fri May 14 1993 21:46

I just received a call from a customer, San Diego County, California,
U.S. that would like someone to share their experiences on their ALL-IN-1
V 3.0 migration. Actually, they are scared and need the services of a
    clairvoyant, but...

San Diego County had the Shared File Cabinet Package running on
    ALL-IN-1 V2.2 or 2.3 and migrated to ALL-IN-1 V2.4. They upgraded
about 2 years ago and because of the large number of file cabinets
that they had to migrate, they were down for several weeks. I guess
that some program "group-ID-support" was instrumental in bringing them
    on line.

What they want to know is has anyone internal or external had the
experience of moving a large number of file cabinets from ALL-IN-1
V2.4 to ALL-IN-1 V3.0? Did the upgrade go smoothly and what can be
shared to help them to be successfull?

    Thank you in advance,
    Dick

    Dick,

Review this conference, there's lots of information and experiences
about similar upgrades to yours, which mostly go very smoothly.

I'll leave Andrew.D.Wicks (tm) to give you the full details of the
    Denver VA Hospital upgrade. :-)

Also, the California, Senate Legislative Data Center in Sacramento
did a large conversion and had modified the SFCP package.

You may want to have this customers sales rep contact their sales
rep and see what you can do.

    Dick,

Well it would appear that the anonymous field person behind the
customer called Remote Sales here in Atlanta (no I don't why they
    called them) as well.

Leaving aside the Denver upgrade (since my version differs from that
of GAP's boss!!) there's nothing really to worry about provided you
follow the advice outlined many times in STARS and this conference
o make sure SFCP isn't customised
o make sure all cabinets point to valid VMS accounts
o watch out for the LANGUAGE field not being set
    etc...

if the customer or local office send a large bag of money to
Wendy Ellis @ALF we may even come out and do the upgrade for them

    Regards,

    Andrew.D.Wicks

Graham, Tim and Andrew.D.Wicks thank you very much for your help. Exactly
    the information the customer needed.
