2696.0. "CANON printer and oa$formatter" by UTRTSC::SMEETS (Martin Smeets DS SSO Utrecht (NL)) Tue May 11 1993 15:42

Hi,

A big customer (county governement) is trying to upgrade from ALL-IN-1 V2.3
to ALL-IN-1 V3.0.

They are using CANON laserprinter (CAPSL language). They've made their own
PRA en PRC printer tables for ALL-IN-1 V2.3. In the V2.3 system everything
worked fine

On the V3.0 system they converted the OLD printertables and now they are
experiencing a lot of problems while printing new documents and many of the
 30,000 old documents.

It looks like that the oa$formatter reshuffles the sequence of the escape codes
e.g

In V2.3 a temp file after oa$formatter processing looks like:

<SPE><RESET><cpi sel.><lpi sel.><font sel.><lf><lf><lf><cr> text

In V3.0 the temp file looks like

<SPE><RESET><cpi sel.><lpi sel.><lf><lf><lf><cr><font sel.> text

The CANON printer expects the escape sequences to be in a particular
sequence otherwise the result is wrong

Three questions:

1. Is it possible to influence the way the formatter works ?

2. Is it possible to use the V2.3 formatter in ALL-IN-1 V3.0 ?

3. Is there someone who has a working CANON printertable for ALL-IN-1 V3.0
(A printertable for a DEClaser with CAPSL cartridge would also do).

Thanks,

Martin

2696.1Remake PR/PRC; No; No; Ask WPS-PLUSIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer&#039;s ApprenticeTue May 11 1993 19:5715
I'm not an expert on this, but...

It's known that the conversion of PRA/PRC files from V2.n to V3.0 is
not "absolutely" perfect, so perhaps you could try recreating a new one
    from the beginning.

I'm sure the old formatter couldn't be used, since the interface is
likely to have chnaged dramatically, with the addition of all the new
features in the WPS-PLUS V4.0 editor. Other than changing the PRA/PRC
    files it's not user customisable.

You might get more information in the WPS-PLUS conference, since they
provide us with a lot of the formatter code.

> 1. Is it possible to influence the way the formatter works ?

This question uses the phrase 'the formatter' which implies that ALL-IN-1
has one formatter. This is not the case. ALL-IN-1 is able to support an
unlimited number of formatters and V3.0 ships with built-in support in
OA$MAIN and OA$FORMATTER for three different formatters:

    o	the ALL-IN-1 ASCII formattter
    o	the WPS-PLUS V4.1 formatter
o	the CDA formatter, which can support different inputs and outputs
depending on the front and back ends which are used.

Since you are referrring to .PRA and .PRC files and printer tables you are
obviously using the WPS-PLUS formatter because these files are created for
and used only by the WPS-PLUS formatter.

> 2. Is it possible to use the V2.3 formatter in ALL-IN-1 V3.0 ?

ALL-IN-1 V2.3 integrated the WPS-PLUS V3.0 formatter so what you are seeing
is a difference in the WPS_PLUS V3.0 and V4.1 formatters. Detailed
questions about the WPS-PLUS formatter should be asked in the WPS-PLUS
conference.

> 3. Is there someone who has a working CANON printertable for ALL-IN-1 V3.0
(A printertable for a DEClaser with CAPSL cartridge would also do).

Ask in the WPS-PLUS conference.
