2650.0. "V3.0 Upgrade References Requested" by CGOOA::SEQUEIRA (Merv Sequeira @VCO) Mon May 03 1993 23:13
I have a customer who planning to upgrade from version 2.4 to 3.0. They
currently have about 7000 ALL-IN-1 subscribers and are very sensitive to the
amount of time their systems will be down during the upgrade.
They are considering (at present the preferred choice) the following route for
the upgrade:
- Create an identical system (minus user files, etc) on their test bed system.
- Perform the V3.0 upgrade on the test bed, then restore all customizations.
- Update a1$postinstall.com to reflect specific changes.
- Take an image backup of the upgraded system and restore it onto an alternate
shadow set on the production system.
- Copy all relevent system files (those in sys$system, sys$share, etc).
- Ensure correct file protection and ACLs are in place.
- Run a1$postinstall.com.
- Boot up the first production node.
- Test if ALL-IN-1 is working, fix and pieces as necessary
- Copy over DCLTABLES, HELP, system files, etc to other system disks (the
cluster has 4 system disks)
- Reboot the other nodes.
They have spent considerable time to date planning each step, and it is safe to
assume that they are quite competent when it comes to managing and tailoring
an ALL-IN-1 system.
In helping them to plan for the upgrade, I have gone through this notesfile
plus searched through STARS for any information that could be of use.
As a sanity check, they have requested if we know of other customers in
similar circumstances who have performed such an upgrade, were
successful/unsuccessful, are willing to talk to my customer about their
experiences.
I can be reached at DTN 380-2114 or CGOOA::SEQUEIRA.
Thanks,
.../Merv
