I am preparing for my customer's ALL-IN-1 V2.3 to V3.0 upgrade (ie Exec Off of Pres for those who have seen earlier notes) My question regards packaging and restoring applications. I want to move all the customizations I modified and tested on their test V3.0 system. There are about 990 elements in SITE I want to bring over. I have tried the packkaging and restore on a 150 items. It works really nie. My concern in doing this for 990 + elements. ANy experience or suggestions here. We need to schedule the upgrade over a weekend...over Memorial Weekend we plan now. I want to make this as fast as possible. I estimate about 60 min to restore 152 element... this will beover 7 hours for the whole lot if I perform the restores interatively for nearly 1000 element. 1/ Any way to hasten this process. Could I package multiple backup sets. Then have more than one restore operation occurring at the same time? 2/ I am working on a VAX 4000 type will this process be quicker on a VAX 6000 type system? The cluster has 3 6000 type systems. We will pick 1 of them on the cluster. Both systems have no users while doing this process. 3/ The packaging procedure seems to work smoothly. However is there a more efficient way for a large number of customizations? 4/ aNY other experience or input appreciated here? Reda

reda,
and there I was hoping that you'd done the upgrade whilst I was away!!
900 customisations sounds a lot are you sure that Bill needs all the
changes George had?
BTW: If you could delay the upgrade about 10 days you could have me
onsite for almost free!! as i'll be in DC on June 10th
you'd probably get a better technical answer by calling the 1-800
number than you're going to get from me but that won't stop me
1) I definitely wouldn't have more than one restore going at the same
time - patience is a virtue - if it takes 6 or so hours you can
take a stroll down Connecticut Avenue and maybe visit the
Smithsonian
2) yes 6000s are faster than 4000s
3) I prefer this method
4) yes but you've heard enough from me so we'll wait and see if any
of the experts are around.
Regards,

Reda, I'd hurry up and do the upgrade before Andy gets close if I were
you :-)
But seriously, there was an article on BBC's breakfast news about
Clinton's new high tec administration, and an ALL-IN-1 screen was
visible in the background!
One of his gurus said that they were into a "multi-dimensional
connectivty scenario"....

Take your time, package several different savesets (A through D, E
through H, etc.) and restore things one at a time. Why tempt fate?
