2611.0. "Mails in wrong account!" by KERNEL::COOPER (Suzanne Cooper UK Customer Support (833)3502) Mon Apr 26 1993 11:58

This is a weird problem, involing mail that was sent to one user but
turned up in another users account,

User W was out of the office, and in his absence mail was sent to him,
(this can be proved by a backup of pending.dat that show the mails
    stacked in his record.)
    the next day:
User P login, he has no mail, he leaves himself logged in and goes for
a wander. when he gats back to his desk he has new mails, the first
on is addressed to him and dated 9:32, then follow 6 mails not address
to him. (These are addressed to user W) Users W mailcount is out by
six (the missing mails.) Ans Users w has no newmail messages waiting
    for him.

It sounds like something is possible wrong with Pending.dat, but it
has been analysed and nothing is wrong with it.

The customers system is 2.4 (unpatched).

Can anyone thing of anything else worth checking? has anyone seen a
    problem like this before?

    Thanks in Advance
    Suzanne

2611.1Dumb question I know, but...IOSG::TALLETTGimmee an Alpha colour notebook...Mon Apr 26 1993 21:185

Does user W have autoforward set?

    Regards,
    Paul

More questions ...

What is W's MAIDES in PROFIL?

Do W and Ps accounts "overlap" in any way (eg same directories, UICs,
identifiers)?

Do either W or P have privileges (ALL-IN-1 or VMS)?

Does P have read/write access to W's files?

Is this reproduceable?

 	To answer all the questions:-

re.1
   >> Does user W have autoforward set?

    No
re .2

>>More questions ...

>>What is W's MAIDES in PROFIL?
 	ALL-IN-1
>>Do W and Ps accounts "overlap" in any way (eg same directories, UICs,
>>identifiers)?
        No, checked that
>>Do either W or P have privileges (ALL-IN-1 or VMS)?

    	No bog standard user accounts.
>>Does P have read/write access to W's files?

    	No
>>Is this reproduceable?

        No (not yet!)
re .3

    >>	Do you have the TeamLinks Connection Package on this system?

Don't think so - would this make a difference, if so why?

Also there are no errors in the oamtierr.log, User W had not previously
sent a mail to user T. It just like the pending record for W jumped in
    to T's account.

    Strange!

Any other idea's suggestion gratefully recieved.
