2571.0. "Can't "write/copy" to a shared drawer!" by STKHLM::LUNDSTEDT () Thu Apr 15 1993 10:38

    HELLO,

I don't quite know what is wrong but what we do is:

    WP
    DRM
    IAD
    Select a drawer
    Index of the drawer
    Edit of a document
Select a part of that document
    GOLD W
    DOC

here I get an error message saying:
%OA-I-LASTLINE, Pick a drawer that you are owner to.(Free translation)

I know that it DOC is: Write a document to your File Cabinet

The result is the same if I put READ, CREATE, EDIT or READ, CREATE,
    EDIT, DELETE/REFILE.

Is this an error or is it surposed to be like this?

    Regards,

2571.1It's not an errorFRAIS::MSCHULZMichael SchulzFri Apr 16 1993 09:3717
In script DOCWRITE.SCP, which is activated by <GOLD><W>/DOC, You'll find
a command-line

.LABEL TOP
.IF...
.IF...
.IF (OA$CURDWR_OWNER NES PROFIL.VMSUSR[OA$USER] AND -
     OA$CURDWR_SHARED EQS OA$Y) OR... -
  THEN .GOTO NOT_OWNED

So it's not possible, to select a part of a document and write it to another
one in a shared drawer, if You're not the owner of this drawer.

Does anyone know the reason, why the script prevents to do so ?

Regards,
Michael

    Thanks,

I think it's not supposed to be like this since you give others the
right to EDIT and CREATE in your drawer.

I'd like to know if the problem was overlooked or like this for a
    reason?

So, we are now two with the same problem (notes 2580.0). After checking
in DOCCREATE.SCP, I found the same code discribed by Michael.

2571.4Creating documents in other user's drawersIOSG::NEWLANDRichard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2Fri Apr 16 1993 15:2228
Note 1780.3 describes the special conditions that must apply when creating
documents in drawers owned by other users.

Some of the ALL-IN-1 operations which create documents were modified in V3.0
to perform the additional processing required to handle drawers not owned
by the user. These included C (Create) and MCD (Make copy of document).

Other operations, such as DT (Document Transfer) RV (Receive a document),
were not modified. We discovered this late in V3.0 development. We did
not have time to develop full solutions for these cases, but we did add
checks which detected the situation and displayed the message telling users
to create documents in their own drawers.

The workaround is to create the document in a drawer that you own and later
use MCD to copy it to the other drawer.

We have problem reports for the following cases:

DT (Document Transfer) RV (Receive a document) or RVC
SP (Scratch Pad) F (File contents)
	WPS-PLUS Editor Gold-Write
WPS-PLUS List and Sort processing output document

so further SPRs are not required.

Any idea on when the overlooked options (i.e., DT RV) will be
fixed? Have another unhappy customer on our hands?

    Thanks,
