2570.0. "Language of this document has been set to AMERICAN after upgrade to 3.0-1" by BACHUS::BHP144::Laroche (Veerle Laroche) Thu Apr 15 1993 10:09

Last week I've done an ALL-IN-1 upgrade to 3.0-1.

From ALL-IN-1 V2.4 ENGLISH with BE market kit to ALL-IN-1 V3.0-1 ENGLISH
with BE market.

When the users edit their existing documents they get the message
'The language of this document has been set to AMERICAN'.

This happens only once for every document.

I've done already a number of upgrades and this is the first time this
happens.

The customer would like to know the reason why.

Thanks,

Veerle Laroche.

2570.1Spell Checker? PARTITION language?IOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeThu Apr 15 1993 11:009
    If, as I suspect, your users are using the WSP-PLUS editor, I think
    this is something to do with what spell check dictionary is used for
    the document. Why it shold start happening now, I don't know. Perhaps
    the drawer language is getting confused? Check in the PARTITION file.

    You might try asking the WPS-PLUS people in their conference (See note
    4.* for pointer)

2570.2Some more information for the AMERICAN languageBACHUS::BHP144::LarocheVeerle LarocheThu Apr 15 1993 14:0936
Graham,

Thanks for replying. I've put the note in the WPS-PLUS conference.

I've also done some more checking. The customer still has 2.4 on their
production cluster.

I noticed the following.

	Master dictionary 	AMERICAN

	Folder			ENGLISH DICTIONARIES
	Title			PERSONAL
	Language		ENGLISH
	..

On the 3.0 system this is now ;

	Master Dictionary	AMERICAN

	Folder			ENGLISH DICTIONARIES
	Title			PERSONAL
	Language		AMERICAN
	..

On the 3.0 system, they have DECwrite and for this product they had the
American International Lexicon for VMS already installed.

Any Comments ?

Thanks,

Veerle
2570.3More about how we install the spell stuffIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeThu Apr 15 1993 15:0120
    The spell checking changed completely with V3.0.

    If something else (e.g. DECwrite) has already installed the new spell
    check stuff (i.e. LCI$LEXICONS logical and directories) then we don't
    try and set it up as well. From reading the code, we are supposed to
    add in any dictionary entries (see below) from the language kit we are
    installing, that aren't already there, and similarly add the lexicons.

    Perhaps the fact that DECwrite installed American as the language first
    has caused that to become the default, even if we did add the other
    dictionaries.

    The file LCI$LEXICONS:LOOKUP.TXT tells you what dictionaries (lexicons)
    you have on the system, although the information is in code! The second
    column of numbers is 2 for American English, and 5 for British. I don't
    know the other values offhand.

    I don't know how you know which is the default language.

!
! Added new message WPL_LANGUAGESET. This message is displayed by
! the editor when a pre-V4 document is edited with V4 for the
! first time. It informs the user that the language of their
! document has been set to the language of their system. For
! example, if a V3.1 French document is edited with an American V4
! system, the following message will be displayed:
! "The language of this document has been set to AMERICAN."
! This warns the user that they may want to change the language
! (via the print/PN menus) so that hyphenation and PN commands
! will be processed in the original language of the document.
