2534.0. "Fetcher access violations" by UTRTSC::SMEETS (Martin Smeets DS SSO Utrecht (NL)) Tue Apr 06 1993 16:15

Hi,

A customer did last week a VMS upgrade from V5.3-1 to V5.5-2. They are still
using ALL-IN-1 V2.3. Until yesterday everything looks fine, but this morning
they have problems with the fetcher (access violation)

details from oamtimail.log:

Has somebody an idea why this is suddenly happening ?

Thanks,

Martin

The most common that I know of is if someone off-node sends mail with a
WordPerfect bodypart to an ALL-IN-1 system that doesn't have the WordPerfect
integration. There are several variations on this theme...

Are you sure that all the messages that the fetcher is trying to process are
"normal"?

Also, did they re-link the ALL-IN-1 image? If not, it might be worth trying to
see if it fixes the problem.

2534.2Ah the good old v2.3 fetcher!AIMTEC::WICKS_AOscar the Grouch is an Optimist!Tue Apr 06 1993 17:3212
    Martin,

the old v2.3 Fetcher was very prone to display the old DCL overlay menu
(the dollar prompt) so if you can't get then off v2.3 at least make
    sure they are fully patched.

Apart from the one Scott mentions I am sure that there are a few more
possible causes mentioned in the archived versions of this conference

2534.3fragmented disk was the bad boyUTRTSC::SMEETSMartin Smeets DS SSO Utrecht (NL)Wed Apr 07 1993 09:298
Hi,

The problem is solved. The errors were caused by a highly fragmented disk, on
which the mailareas resides, with non-contigiuos directories.

Thanks anyway,

Martin
