2522.0. "SFCP Kit V1.1, Odd V2.3 to V3.0 upgrade" by CANYON::HARDMAN (Lorin Hardman @TFO; Tempe, AZ) Sat Apr 03 1993 07:33
Hi All
I am going to be doing a some what odd upgrade of a VMS V5.3 and
ALL-IN-1 V2.3 with SFCP 1.1 to a VMS V5.5 and ALL-IN-1 V3.0 system.
The odd part is the VMS V5.5 exists (obviously the V5.3 does also).
The customer wants to 'move' applications by booting the existing
system into the V5.5 cluster (it is currently in 2 node V5.3
cluster, only 1 node is moving, the other is going back to the lessor).
After various discussions it appears that if the following sequence
is done, we should have a workable process (CSC didn't commit to this
but they indicated that it may work):
Install ALL-IN-1 V2.3 on the VMS V5.5
Install SFCP V1.1 on VMS V5.5
Join existing system to VMS V5.5
Change logicals and such that the ALL-IN-1 data areas and
profile files from the old system are pointed to
by the V5.5 startup procedures.
Test to insure ALL-IN-1 works, including SFCP
Upgrade to ALL-IN-1 V3.0
Before you give my *comments* on "Why are you doing that?" or "It
won't work that way!", please answer my questiion:
Where can I get the V1.1 of the SFCP. Note 2099 indicates
that it retired in Dec of 92. The couple of CSC persons
I talked with indicated that they might have V1.2 (only
works on ALL-IN-1 V2.4 from what I can gather), but the
V1.1 is "in the local office" (I am part of the local
office and the persons that got me involved in this are
also, I don't think we hav it).
The customer is licensed for this version V1.1 and the
usage is temporary, just to get to the V3.0 upgrade.
Any pointers?
Now:
Why The customer feels that doing it this way is an easier
and faster than another approach. His intent is to
accomplish this (ALL-IN-1 and an SNA link are what
needs to be upgraded. Other upgrades he is willing
to wait on if necessary).
Every one I have talked to initially says that it won't
work (including me when I first heard it), but further
discussion indicates that it might if ...
It Why not?
While we are at it, the other products are Rdb from V3.0
to V4.2, SNA/VMS V2.0 to V2.1A, SNA 3270 TE V1.4 to V1.5.
Thanks for pointers and comments
lo
p.s. This upgrade is occurring starting at 8:00am, April 3, 1993 so the

Thanks,
Valeria.

| European ASSETS isn't in Turin. It's in VBO... Turin lost
responsibility for ASSETS some years ago. Use the CLARID::EOASSETS
conference to get support.
