************** Need Information about FCS/API for ALL-IN-1 **************** ************** To be used for ALL-IN-1 mobile communication *************** Hi, My name is Peter Bjurhall and I am working as a Project Manager in Gothenburg, Sweden. For some time we have here locally taken quite an interest in Mobile Communication over the Mobitex network. We have set up a demo configuration with a VAX/VMS system as a 'faster'/server and a DOS/PC as a mobile 'terminal'. On the VAX/VMS we have developed a Mobitex API. I have created some demo applications giving the possibility to send mail messages between the mobile PC and VAXmail/ALL-IN-1. There is also a question/ answer application where you from the mobile PC can get data from a database on the VAX/VMS system. Note this is different from the Mobilizer software where you have a PC at both the 'faster' and mobile side although the 'faster' PC is connected to a VAX/VMS system. I am now interested in having access from my mobile PC more directly to ALL-IN-1 beeing able to from the mobile PC read ALL-IN-1's mail inqueue, extract selected mail for read and even put new messages in the inqueue. I can do this if I from an application program in the VAX/VMS system can access ALL-IN-1's mailqueue. I know there is a File Cabinet Server (FCS) with corresponding Application Programming Interface (API) making it possible to communicate with ALL-IN-1's file system. I need information about this FCS/API. Functionality and where to get it. Can you please help me with this? I would really much appreciate any help. Peter, I don't even pretend to understand the question you are asking but I would recommend you contact Ben Geerdes@VBE whO I believe is working on a similar project. Regards, Andrew.D.Wicks

It sounds like you just want a copy of the File Cabinet Server API docset. Does anyone know if it was part of the V3.0 documentation or is it separately orderable? Regards, Paul PS The FCS API is only supported under Windows, not DOS. You might be able to get an internal "kit" for use on your project.

Paul, It is seperately orderable in that there's a Q-number however it was reported to me that the Q-number points to a non-existent book but the product manager was unable to confirm/deny this. Maybe you could ask a writer being to give the definitive answer. Regards, Andrew.D.Wicks

re .2 >PS The FCS API is only supported under Windows, not DOS. You might be > able to get an internal "kit" for use on your project. The FCS API IS supported for DOS, its just that nobody uses at the current time. We never stopped testing/supporting it. --Bob |
