2504.0. "CDA - DECwindows pre-req for ALL-IN-1??" by GIDDAY::BURT (Chele Burt - CSC Sydney, DTN 7355693) Wed Mar 31 1993 08:54

Hello and greetings,

Large customer has a new machine/cluster which they want put ALL-IN-1 V3.0 on.
They are currently installing optional software products, prior to "the big
instal".
The customer is going to be throwing around lots of exotic foreign mail etc
around their network, and thus will be using CDA.

The installation of CDA Convert Library fails, with the error
"CDA BASE COMPONENTS not installed".
Which is reasonable, because it isn't.

They do not have either DECwindows OR Motif on their system.
They do not wish to have either DECwindows OR Motif on their system.
The SPD says they must....
Would CDA RTS alleviate this problem, or are they just going to have to
install DECwindows?

Thanks & regards,

Chele

Paul Marchant has pronounced on CDA pre-reqs in here before. If you
can't find his note, and even if you can, perhaps it's a question that
you should be asking of the CDA group.

The SSA of CDA 2.0 says CDA RTS should do it:

 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

For Systems Using Character Cell Terminals Only
 (No DECwindows Interface):

 o OpenVMS Operating System V5.4

o CDA Runtime Services for OpenVMS V1.4
(also known as CDA Base Services)

o DECimage Application Services for OpenVMS V2.0
(when using TIFF or MacPaint converters)

o DEC GKS for OpenVMS V4.2 (Runtime System only - when using Graph-
    ics converter)

Hello,

To whom can I direct a formal enquiry about this? The CDA product manager, or
the ALL-IN-1 product manager? We have other customers here who don't want
DECwindows/Motif.

The ALL-IN-1 V3 SPD contradicts the CDA V2 SSA. The customer isn't entitled to
instal CDA V2 (even tho' it's on the CD, & 1.1 isn't)

I know it's April 1st, but this is starting to seem really daft.

Thanks & regards,

Chele

2504.6DECwindows *was* a pre-req for CDA when V3.0 shippedHORLIX::paulI'd sink therefore I swamThu Apr 01 1993 13:0011
ALL-IN-1 V3.0 predates the CDA converter library V2.0, and the
information in the V3.0 SPD was correct ``at the time of going to
press''. The requirement for DECwindows was explicitly spelt out for
V3.0, since a number of customers didn't realise that DECwindows was
a pre-requisite (then) for CDA.

Since ALL-IN-1 has no requirement for DECwindows, I see no reason why it
shouldn't work with the CDArt product.

Cheers,
    Paul.
