2499.0. "Multilingual ALL-IN-1 problems" by KERNEL::LOAT (Keep passing the open windows...) Tue Mar 30 1993 17:49

    VMS 5.5-2 ALL-IN-1 3.0-1 British with French as the second language.

    A customer has logged a couple of calls here at the CSC about their
    multi-lingual system. We're in touch with a group in Frankfurt about
    this, but I thought I'd post the problems in here as well, just in case
    anyone has any pearls of wisdom to share!

    1) When a user creates a System Distribution list using the British
    interface, users who use the French interface cannot see these lists,
    and vice versa. This has been reported in 2.3, and 2.4, but note 1391
    in this conference implies that this was fixed in 3.0 This doens't seem
    to be true. 8-[ Any ideas why this doesn't work?

    2) When a user is created using the British interface, everything is
    okay, and they have got British specified as the language in their user
    profile, but when they spell check a document, it uses the French
    lexicon. If the user then does GOLD-J, and changes the language to
    British, everything is okay. Can anyone tell me where the language
    which is used for the spell checker comes from? Now that this has been
    done for 1200 accounts, is there any way to set this globally for all
    the users? Any hacks to do this?

    Thanx

    Steve.

2499.1Re SDL problemIOSG::MAURICEBecause of the architect the building fell downTue Mar 30 1993 18:0321
    Hi,

    RE question 1.

    I looked at the old note and saw to my horror that it was me that gave
    the duff information. In my reply to that note I meant Private
    Distribution Lists rather than System Distribution Lists. I'll bet some
    moderator changed the title of the note from Private to System
    Distribution Lists ;^)

    My guess is that the string containing "MAIL-LIST" in OALLV.BLI gets
    translated differently per language. Why this should be translated I've
    no idea since I don't think users get to see this string. So as an
    experiment it might be worth changing this string back to English on
    the French version. If this works we can claim it's a translation
    error!! (Also the profile records of all SDLs would need changing to
    have a MAIDES of MAIL-LIST).

    Cheers

2499.2A difficult customisation!AIMTEC::WICKS_AOscar the Grouch is an Optimist!Tue Mar 30 1993 18:118
    Re .1,

    Of course the customer would need a BLISS compiler to apply that
    change.

    Re .-1

    Andy's right, but presumably they could be sent an updated object
    file...

    Anyway, "MAIL-LIST" is defined in OALLV.BLI, SA.A1$MSG, OA.A1$MSG and
    SM.A1$MSG (and site versions) so all of those need to be the same.

    The dictionary question could be better asked of WPS-PLUS in their
    conference, but it looks like hacking the LANGUAGE field in the MASTER
    dataset in all of the users' directories might do the business....

2499.4Frankfurt bugfixes installed?BERN01::MATSUISandra Matsui, Berne SwitzerlandWed Mar 31 1993 11:4913
    Did you installl all the bugfixes from Frankfurt?
    PETRUS::A1$ENG3:[DIAMOND.BUGFIXES$PUBLIC.FRENCH]README.TXT

    In profil.maides you should have MAIL-LIST and not PUBLIPOST. or
    PUBLIPOSTAGE.

    Have a look at note 2422 to see if there is anything there that could
    help you.

    We have german as our primary language and french as our secondary
    language on our test system in Bern.
