2470.0. "Problem knowing where to start..." by UNYEM::KOROL () Wed Mar 24 1993 21:06

    First of all, I do not have that much experience writing ALL-IN-1
    scripts.

    I have changed a few forms and have make a few changes to
    existing scripts (that actually worked for me) and that's about it.

    I have a customer that has 2 divisions. The Corporate division which
    uses an IBM mainframe with CC:mail and Lotus Notes as their mail system.
    The Nuclear division has several VAXclusters and use ALL-IN-1 as their mail
    system.

    We use the X.400 gateway to pass mail back and forth between the
    divisions and it works great.

    Now that that is in place, the Corporate division wants to send
    "Corporate News Flashes" to the Nuclear division that can be seen by
    ALL ALL-IN-1 users.

    So we decided on a Shared Folder. I created an ALL-IN-1 account
    CORP_NEWS which they will send the messages to. I have created a UDP
    that will read new mail, files the text of the message into a shared
    folder [CORP_NEWS] so the news items can be seen by all ALL-IN-1 users.
    Now I have to find a way to automate the process so that no person has
    to log into that account to check for mail messages.

    I could create a Script that would do what the UDP does and loops until
    there are no new mail messages, then exits.

    Any suggestions if this is a good what to approach this?

    Regards,

    Ever thought of using ALL-IN-1 Personal Assistant?

    I'm sure it can do that easily.

2470.2Where do I find the info?UNYEM::KOROLThu Mar 25 1993 12:477
    Mike:

    Where do I find info on ALL-IN-1 Personal Assistant? I have all of the
    ALL-IN-1 documentation. We are running ALL-IN-1 V2.4, or is that
    something new to V3.0?

2470.4More detail (sales pitch!!) for APAIOSG::PYEGraham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's ApprenticeThu Mar 25 1993 17:4415
    Since Mike beat me to the idea, I'll add a brief explanation of how it
    works....

    APA runs as a server on the system. You define something called a RULE
    for the account which is going to receive the News Flash mail, and then
    get the server to run the rule every few hours. When the rule runs and
    recognises the new mail message as a new flash, it forwards it to all
    the users on the system, probably using the SUBSCRIBERS: "distribution
    list".

    Of course there are other, more complicated ways of doing this, but
    since you said you didn't know much about ALL-IN-1, this might be
    easier for you....
