2399.0. "URGENT: INSTALL ADVICE NEEDED" by SWAM1::BOLLINGER_JO () Thu Mar 11 1993 20:00

Hi!

I am installing ALL-IN-1 IOS V3.0 for the first time at a customer site.
Any help, advice, or suggestions on the following issues would be
greatly appreciated. By the way, this is my first major installation and
I've had only limited experience with ALL-IN-1 system management, so please
excuse questions that are "novice" in nature!

	1. What is the optimum way to distribute the ALL-IN-1 files
	    if a)there is 1 system disk(RA92), and 2 other RA92's available
for ALL-IN-1? [Plus, I will install the Message Router, MR
Gateway products], or b) only the system disk and 1 other disk is
available rather than 2 ? In particular, which disk should
hold the shared library files, shared data files, ENGLISH lang
files, and the mail area SDAF file for optimum I/O performance
and ALL-IN-1 management purposes? (BTW, up to 100 concurrent
    	    ALL-IN-1 users eventually.)

	2. Customer already uses PATHWORKS for IBM-pc clones to communicate
with VAX/VMS, also has Apple Mac's that need to send Mail and
exchange Wordperfect documents with ALL-IN-1 users. Some other
products will be installed, such as DEC MAILworks and X.400
Gateway, that I will not be helping with as experts in those
areas will do that. However, I'm getting questions about it, and
wonder if there are any considerations I need to take into account
to help them prepare for these eventualities?

Please help if you can. I really want this installation to be a success and
provide that extra-added value in helping the customer meet his goals beyond
the mere installation of ALL-IN-1.

Regards,

Joel Bollinger

Search this conference for the notes announcing the Performance Guide
that's available. That'll help you with your system design. I expect
Tony's books will cover it too.
