2392.2 | More information please | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Wed Mar 10 1993 22:23 | 15 |
| Is the report created within ALL-IN-1, and what editor or word processor is
used to create it?
How is the report sent to the ALL-IN-1 systems?
When the report is received by the ALL-IN-1 system, what is its Data type
and Handling. The Data type and Handling will determine if ALL-IN-1
formats the report during a print operation, and which formatter will be
used.
It sounds like ALL-IN-1 may be formatting the report when this is not
required.

2392.3 | More info on form feeding | ARDEV::CRAWFORD | | Fri Mar 12 1993 17:36 | 22 |
| Here is more info:
The reports are originally created thru COBOL into VFC format
files. If left in this format and the files are mailed to
either VAXMAIL or ALL-IN-1, both of these mail functions
reformat the files into variable lenght files with no more
forms feeds in them, (ALL-IN-1 will put in its own form feeds).
To alleviate the form feed problem we converted the files
from VFC format to variable length format and put it manual
form feeds where they were in the VFC format. So now, we can
VAXMAIL these reports with out affecting what the report is
supposed to look like with the proper form feeds in place.
ALL-IN-1 will recognize the form feeds we put in there now,
but the problem is that ALL-IN-1 still wants to put in it's
own form feeds. I would like to have ALL-IN-1 not put in its
own form feeds.
Thanks for any help you can give,
Rick

2392.4 | ASCII files | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Fri Mar 12 1993 18:23 | 17 |
| From your description of how you create your reports they will be handled
as ASCII files.
I'm assuming that when the reports are mailed to ALL-IN-1 users they end up
as ALL-IN-1 messages. To investigate this further I need to know the
following information about the ALL-IN-1 message:
o the Data type (will probably be ASCII)
o the Handling (will probably be blank)
This information can be displayed by selecting the message and doing
Gold-V.

| What version of ALL-IN-1 are you using?
It's probable that your system is set up so that ASCII messages are
formatted using the WPS-PLUS formatter instead of the ALL-IN-1 ASCII
formatter. The ALL-IN-1 ASCII formatter will not insert additional form
feeds, but the WPS-PLUS formatter will.
The formatter being used can be determined by doing the following:
1. Print the message and press NEXT SCREEN when the "Printing
Document" is displayed.
2. If the WPS-PLUS Formatter Print Settings menu is displayed then
your system is set-up to format ASCII messages using the WPS-PLUS
formatter.
You can force the message to be formatted using the ASCII formatter by:
1. Selecting the message
2 Use the U (Update) option and set the Handling to "ASCII FORMAT".

2392.8 | ASCII FORMAT | IOSG::NEWLAND | Richard Newland, IOSG, REO2-G/L2 | Tue Mar 23 1993 19:21 | 5 |
| The 'ASCII FORMAT' handling is new in ALL-IN-1 V3.0. If your system is
V2.4 then 'WPSPLUS NO FMT' is the best alternative, as you have discovered.
